Senior Electrical Design Engineer β Decarbonisation & Energy Solutions (Manchester)
Role Overview
Senior Electrical Design Engineer responsible for delivering high-quality electrical designs across decarbonisation and sustainable retrofit projects.
Focused on low-carbon technologies including solar PV, battery storage, LED lighting, smart controls, and building power infrastructure.
Provides technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams, with responsibility for design coordination, QA, and mentoring junior engineers.
- Core Responsibilities
- Electrical Design & Engineering
- Lead LV electrical design for low-carbon and retrofit projects
β’ Design and integrate
- Solar PV systems (including ground-mounted and BIPV)
- Battery storage systems
- LED lighting and efficiency upgrades
- Power distribution and building infrastructure
- Support integration of electrical systems with mechanical and energy technologies (e. g. heat pumps, smart controls)
- Full design delivery across
- RIBA Stages 2β5
β’ Produce
- Calculations
- Single line diagrams (SLDs)
- Schematics, schedules, and technical reports
- Experience engaging with
- DNOs
- (feasibility through to application stage)
β’ Competent in
- Auto CAD
- BIM workflows (Revit desirable)
- Lead electrical design packages on multidisciplinary projects
β’ Conduct QA checks and sign-off of electrical designs in line with
- IET Wiring Regulations
- UK Building Regulations
- Design Leadership & Management
- Lead design coordination across mechanical, electrical, and energy systems
- Produce technical documentation, reports, drawings, and specifications
- Client-facing role with responsibility for presentations and technical discussions
- Experience across both
- Design & Build and traditional procurement routes
- Mentor and develop junior engineers
- Manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively
- Commercial awareness (bids, scopes, fee proposals)
- Support risk management and maintain design risk registers
- Sector Experience (Desirable)
- Decarbonisation and energy efficiency projects
β’ Public sector and funding-led programmes such as
- PSDS
- WH/SHDF
- Retrofit and low-carbon building upgrades
Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (BEng or equivalent)
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards
- Technical Knowledge & Experience
- Strong experience in electrical building services design
