Fire & Security Engineer

Location: Bedford (MK44)
Full-Time | Monday–Friday (08:00–16:30) + On-Call Rota
Salary: Up to £37,000 + £160/week on-call allowance + overtime & travel expenses

Fire & Security Engineer to join a Facilities Management team supporting a secure site in Bedford.

The Role

You’ll be responsible for maintaining and supporting a range of fire detection, life safety, and security systems , ensuring they remain compliant, reliable, and fully operational.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out reactive and planned preventative maintenance

• Install, test, commission, and service

  • Fire alarms
  • CCTV systems
  • Intruder alarms
  • Access control systems
  • Diagnose faults, carry out repairs, and provide technical recommendations
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations at all times
  • Manage and update maintenance schedules
  • Support procurement and materials ordering
  • Work independently and prioritise workload effectively
  • Assist wider FM teams when required
  • Maintain accurate records and oversee contractors on-site

About You

You’ll be a strong fit if you have

  • Proven experience in fire & security systems installation and maintenance

• Knowledge of relevant standards such as

  • BS5839 (Fire Detection)
  • BS EN 50131 (Intruder Alarms)
  • BS EN 50133 (Access Control)
  • An ONC (or equivalent) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering
  • Strong IT skills (Microsoft Office, databases)
  • Excellent communication skills and a professional approach
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in secure or high-pressure environments
  • A proactive, self-motivated mindset
  • Security Requirements

This role requires security clearance, including

  • BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard)
  • Potential for higher-level clearance (CTC/SC)
  • Background checks (employment, criminal, financial history)
  • UK residency requirements may apply
