Mechanical Supervisor – South Manchester
Salary: Up to £43,000 DOE | Monday–Friday | 40 Hours | 08:00–16:30
We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Supervisor to join a busy building services environment in South Manchester.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced mechanical/plumbing professional looking to take responsibility for a team and play a key role in the delivery of planned and reactive maintenance across a large and complex site.
The Role
As Mechanical Supervisor, you will oversee day-to-day mechanical and plumbing maintenance, leading engineers, trades staff and specialist subcontractors to ensure works are completed safely, efficiently and to the required standards.
You will take responsibility for PPM and reactive maintenance, compliance, water hygiene, permits, shutdowns and mechanical isolations, while supporting the wider team with technical advice and fault finding.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise mechanical and plumbing engineers, trades staff and subcontractors
- Manage planned and reactive maintenance activities
- Ensure statutory and non-statutory PPM is completed correctly and on time
- Maintain accurate maintenance, fault and remedial records
- Oversee water hygiene and Legionella compliance, including ACOP L8 and HSG 274
- Support Responsible Person duties for water hygiene and ventilation
- Manage permits, shutdowns and mechanical isolations
- Complete and review risk assessments and safe working procedures
- Manage engineer rosters and daily workloads
- Provide technical support and assist with fault finding
- Monitor KPIs and maintenance performance
- Support minor projects and continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure all work is carried out in line with health & safety requirements
About You
You'll need:
- NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering, Plumbing or equivalent
- Proven experience within mechanical/plumbing maintenance
- Previous supervisory or team leadership experience
- Good knowledge of health & safety legislation
- Knowledge of water hygiene/Legionella compliance
- Experience managing contractors
- A practical and reliable approach
- Good communication and organisational skills
- Willingness to undertake additional training and qualifications
- Driving licence desirable
Healthcare or experience working on a large, complex site would be advantageous, but is not essential.
