Job Description
This is an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer/Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our dedicated engineering team to strengthen our capabilities in New Product Design and Development, fast respond to market and customers’ needs, support production of the company’s new and existing product portfolios and assist growth of the business.
Responsibilities
- Review and understand customer requirements and specifications, come up with concept and prototype designs
- Formalise and produce effective design solutions to meet customer requirements
- Perform product design calculations to prove strength and safety through finite element analysis and analytical calculations
- Create 3D models and produce 2D detailed and outline drawings in line with BS8888
- Define project scopes, conduct risk assessment, obtain costings and prepare quotations
- Perform a full lifecycle product development from design to manufacture, manage project plans, track and deliver projects on time and on budget
- Carry out vibration and shock analysis, conduct static and dynamic testing, analyse product test data and writing up engineering reports
- Where required, work with external test houses to qualify products to meet customer specifications
- Provide product documentation which may include outline drawings, calculations, technical datasheets, installation instructions and technical reports in line with customer requirements
- Participate in a full lifecycle product development process including PDR, CDR, DFMEA and PDMEA
- Provide technical assistances to Production team and resolve issues in manufacturing processes
- Provide technical assistances to Sales team and carry out product selection to meet customer needs
- Keep abreast of current engineering practices and standards, materials and finishes, REACH and RoHS, generate and maintain in-house Engineering Standards
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum BSc (Hons) 2:1 or above in Mechanical Engineering
- At least 5 years’ experience for the role of Senior Mechanical Engineer
- Experience with CAD 3D modelling (Inventor Pro or similar) and generation of detailed technical drawings including the use of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Experience with ANSYS Finite Element Analysis (preferred)
- Knowledge of mechanical design calculations
- Strong analytical and computational capability
- Ability to work to tight timescales with minimum supervision
- Ability to work independently and in a team with a variety of people and on multiple projects at any one time
- Excellent communication, organisation and time management
- Pre-employment you will be required to undertake a basic security check known as Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS)
