Hutcheon Mearns, part of Cooper Parry, is delighted to be working with a highly ambitious and growing business for the appointment of a new Head of Finance, based at their East Lothian site, easily commutable from East Lothian and parts of the Scottish Borders. Our client, a member of an international Group of companies, undertakes major projects in support of critical services within their sector. The ability to design, build, own and operate diverse products and services has made this business a powerhouse within their specialist industry.

As a key member of the senior management team, the Head of Finance will assume full responsibility for the overall finance operations, including leading all areas of financial management and accounting standards and managing a strong and driven team. Given the high risk and high standards within their specialist industry, the Head of Finance will be expected to develop and enforce robust financial procedures that uphold the company's standards. You will provide strategic and high-level financial insights to guide decision-making at board level and improve efficiencies across the organisation. In addition, the role involves close collaboration with group entities to ensure accurate and timely intercompany accounting and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor the finance team, delegate tasks effectively, and ensure smooth operations across all finance processes.
  • Oversee the preparation of accurate financial statements for monthly accounts and year-end reporting, ensuring timely and insightful analysis.
  • Manage the internal audit program to ensure adherence to internal procedures. Lead external audit engagements, ensuring full compliance with financial and VAT regulations.
  • Monitor and manage cash flow and working capital. Maintain a strong financial relationship with the Parent Company to support liquidity and funding needs.
  • Oversee financial compliance and internal controls. Identify potential financial risks and implement strategies to mitigate them.
  • Lead the finance team in supporting Business Managers with performance insights, KPI tracking, and ensuring operational activities align with internal controls and strategic goals.
  • Key member of project team for ERP reimplementation and other business projects, championing innovation through the integration of AI and emerging technologies.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in multi-division or group accounting.
  • Strong understanding of budgeting processes and financial control.
  • High level of competence in Excel and experience with financial reporting tools.
  • ACCA, CIMA, CA or equivalent level/experience.
  • Practical experience in a system/ERP Implementation project as a direct lead.
  • Previous experience as a Head of Finance/Finance Manager as number 1 in Finance.
