Hutcheon Mearns is working exclusively with a growing, mission-led business in the environmental sustainability sector to appoint a Finance Manager at a key stage in their development. The company is based in Dundee, Scotland and the role will offer hybrid working but candidates must be able to commute to the Dundee office, preferably at least 3 days per week.

Working closely with an experienced founding team and Finance Director, this is a hands-on role suited to a finance professional who is comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment and wants to make a real impact. You'll play a central role in shaping the operational finance function as the company scales internationally. With a strong contract pipeline spanning global corporations, government agencies and private businesses, this company is undoubtedly on an exciting upward curve. The Job Opportunity

You'll work across all areas of the business - from operations to R&D, commercial, and data science - providing meaningful financial insight and building the tools to support strategic decisions. Initial responsibilities include:

  • Preparing timely monthly management accounts and insightful variance analysis
  • Leading budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Supporting statutory reporting, audit readiness, and R&D tax credit claims
  • Managing payroll, working capital, and cash flow
  • Ensuring accurate, contract-aligned billing and robust internal controls
  • Building and integrating scalable financial systems across multi-entity, multi-currency operations
  • Supporting investors reporting, fundraising processes, and financial modelling - reporting to the Finance Director
  • Collaborating cross-functionally to define KPIs and improve business performance

The Candidate

You'll ideally be a fully qualified accountant (CA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent experience) with strong management accounting experience in a fast-paced environment. Candidates who are Qualified by Experience with relevant experience will be considered.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Is confident running the day-to-day finance function (AP, AR, payroll, reconciliations) - with 2 team members supporting
  • Understands cash flow dynamics and working capital management
  • Has experience with multi-entity, multi-currency reporting
  • Is proficient in Xero, Excel, ideally and familiar with BI tools like PowerBI or Tableau

You will be able to translate financial data into clear, actionable insights, be comfortable working closely with non-finance stakeholders and have a continuous improvement mindset. You'll be supported by 2 finance/administration staff and a leadership team that understands the value of finance as a driver for growth - not just a reporting function.

Remuneration & Benefits

Dependant on experience - up to £60,000 - £70,000 indicative
