Hutcheon Mearns has been engaged to source a Lead Cost Controller for a highly successful, international business with a very significant UK presence. This business has a "Go Green" attitude, continuously looking to make their customers' operations more sustainable through reducing both carbon footprint and costs. Providing a range of innovative services in the energy space, our client is a world-leader in its field and is a sizeable, profitable and international business which has an ambitious growth strategy and a true focus on people.
The Opportunity
As Lead Cost Controller, you will be a part of the Finance & Project Services Department. Your main responsibilities will be to provide a proactive and robust cost management service and take ownership of project P&L reporting. This is a key role which will drive improvement across the cost/project control function.
- Line management of cost control team
- Internal project P&L reporting and forecast including preparation and posting of project accruals and variance analysis
- Preparation and review of client cost reports
- Ownership of aged debt and optimisation of cashflow
- Input to preparation of variation order requests as required by project team
- Creation of project budget as handed over from tendering
- Highlight in timely manner any areas of concern for potential cost overrun
- Management of risk and opportunity reporting
- Review of final project performance vs sold and feedback variances to tendering to promote improvement
- Support client and external audits as required
- Input to monthly project reviews with Senior Management
Background and Experience
- Project cost control knowledge and experience
- Project accounting knowledge and experience
- Previous line management experience is beneficial
- Advanced Excel skills
- Experience of using ERP systems
- Degree qualified in Finance or Business Studies is preferable
- ACCA / CIMA qualified/ part qualified is beneficial
- Experience of broader project controls remit is an advantage
- Demonstrates commitment to Values, Visions and Behaviours
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Attention to detail
- Strong communication skills both oral and written
