Hutcheon Mearns are delighted to bring to the market an opportunity for a Part Time Payroll Assistant to join our clients thriving finance operation. In this role, you will assist the Payroll Manager in processing weekly and monthly payrolls, Auto Enrolment, and related tasks. The role is evening-based and you'll be in the office on a rotational basis.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is looking to develop their payroll expertise or someone who has a finance background and might be seeking to embark on a career within payroll and contribute to a fast-paced payroll function. As the role is evening based, it could be suited to someone who is studying and keen to secure relevant work experience.
Responsibilities- Assist the Payroll Manager in processing accurate weekly wages and monthly salaries in line with payroll and auto-enrolment deadlines.
- Support in administering payroll functions including Tax and National Insurance (NI) calculations, statutory payments (maternity, paternity, adoption, sickness), student loans, and other deductions.
- Help process joiners, leavers, and any changes in employee data.
- Explain payroll calculations and deductions to Line Managers and employees, assisting with any payroll queries.
- Stay updated on UK payroll tax rules and advise the Company on any changes.
- Assist in the preparation of payroll reports and data collation as required.
- Ensure payroll processes are compliant, accurate, and signed off within the required timeframes.
- Produce payroll reports for the Company, maintaining accuracy and timeliness.
- Develop your payroll knowledge through hands-on experience and guidance from the Payroll Supervisor.
- Provide cover for the Payroll Supervisor during absences or holidays to ensure payroll responsibilities are completed accurately and on time.
- Maintain an excellent working knowledge of Excel. Experience with Iris Earnie payroll software is a plus.
- Experience in payroll processing is desirable, but a willingness to learn is essential.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent Excel skills with the ability to support the production of payroll reports.
- Familiarity with payroll software, preferably Iris Earnie, is desirable but not required.
- Good communication skills, with the ability to explain payroll details clearly to employees and managers.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure.
- Willingness to provide cover and step into a supervisory role when needed.
