Hutcheon Mearns Finance is delighted to be working in partnership with Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland in search of a new Finance Business Partner to join their wonderful Finance Team. This is a newly created role reporting directly to the Head of Finance, who along with the Finance Director & Key Stakeholders have embarked on a new 5-year strategy and are seeking a talented Finance professional to support the business meet their key objectives within said strategy.

About Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland: Based in Edinburgh City Centre, CHSS are Scotland's largest health charity, working to help people with chest, heart, stroke & long covid conditions live life to the full. Many people living with these conditions experience fear, isolation & loneliness, and struggle to cope with the impact of their health condition on their everyday lives. The charity's amazing nurses, support workers and volunteers are there to make sure no one has to recover alone. With their Community Healthcare Support Service, they ensure that people across Scotland get the support they need to live full lives despite life changing health conditions.

About the Opportunity: The Finance Business Partner will report to the Head of Finance and support the charity in achieving its strategic and operational objectives by providing financial expertise and strategic guidance to the organisation. The role is largely responsible for delivering accurate and timely financial insights, enabling informed decisions, and driving financial performance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Analysis of financial data to assist in strategic decision-making.
  • Providing financial advice to leadership and budget holders.
  • Driving financial performance through informed decision-making.
  • Working with budget holders to develop their annual budgets and quarterly forecasts.
  • Aligning operational plans with agreed budgets.
  • Supporting income generation strategies.
  • Providing feedback and guidance to Assistant Finance Business Partner.
  • Conducting regular one-on-one meetings.
  • Facilitating professional development opportunities.
  • Responsible for producing monthly management accounts, relevant reports, and insightful commentary on performance.
  • Lead and develop adequate reporting of restricted and unrestricted funds both internally and externally including the management accounts.
  • Work with budget holders to ensure compliance with the financial terms and conditions of externally funded projects and activities and internal budgets.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of income generation and financial strategies.
  • Lead on and produce departmental and project budgets with the Head of Finance, budget holders, supported by the Assistant Finance Business Partner.
  • Analyse, calculate, and give budget holders all necessary information on their budget requirements and financial performance against budgets and forecasts.
  • Carry out necessary analysis to evaluate income and expenditure budget proposals and investment requests against resources and strategic objectives including income generation strategies.
  • Provide financial workings for funding applications and work with budget holders to ensure cost allocation and full reimbursement are implemented as agreed.
  • With the Finance Team Leader, develop the accounting system to reconcile with other systems holding financial information in the organisation.
  • Lead on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the department making sure these are prepared, reviewed, and updated.
  • Assist with internal audits and support the Head of Finance in implementing recommendations.
  • Responsible for all data necessary to produce management accounts, including income and expenditure not accounted for through the purchase and sales ledgers.

About You: Experience working in a similar role with a Charity or not-for-profit organisation would be advantageous. Qualified Accountant (ICAS/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent). Candidates close to qualification or Qualified by Experience (QBE) will also be considered. Experience of managing or supervising staff. Experience of business partnering with and influencing senior management and/or budget holders. Strong data skills with a keen eye for detail & process improvement.
