Role Description

The primary focus of this role is to identify opportunities in the current and future manufacturing process to maximise the benefits from Automation, managing the design, manufacture, installation and improvements of the automation and production equipment.

Responsibilities & Key Tasks:

  • Supply or produce production equipment to manufacture robotic lawnmowers.
  • Specification, control and purchase of automation equipment needed in the manufacturing process.
  • Continuous improvement of all production equipment, resulting in improved safety, increased efficiency and improved overall equipment effectiveness; identifying updates and upgrades to improve the reliability of equipment.
  • Knowledge of 'design for manufacture / design for automation'.
  • Ensuring all equipment is UKCA marked with all the necessary documentation, and support manufacturing and maintenance with all necessary training and information.
  • Understanding of industrial communications methods, mechatronic systems, pneumatics, motors/drives, HMI interfaces and communication with IT systems.
  • Collaboration with Quality and Product support to root‑cause analyse and solve production and quality issues.
  • Collaboration with production to identify and assist with efficiency improvements.
  • Collaboration with R&D and the New Product Introduction team to industrialise processes and provide the necessary systems and production equipment.
  • Development of control systems to improve machine operation, data collection, quality control and human interfacing.

Additional Skills / Qualifications:

  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Good understanding of and experience in CE or UKCA and PUWER marking of equipment built in‑house or purchased.
  • Good understanding of robotics.
  • Extensive knowledge of Siemens PLC programming, with experience in data collection and data transfer.
  • Several years’ experience in automation or controls engineering.
  • A sound knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint & Word.
  • Good time management and planning skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external suppliers.
  • Ability to offer solid handover to other teams (H&S, quality, production, Product support), delivering training and technical files as required.
  • Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to evaluate and embrace the latest technology.
  • Ability to demonstrate a "What can I do attitude".
  • Willingness and preparedness to travel, if required.
