Responsibilities
- Work within a team of Engineers/Design Specialists in the development of new products, including all steps within a formal product development process.
- Apply scientific/engineering principles in the design of machines.
- Execute conceptual and detail design – 3D modeling of parts and assemblies.
- Optimize design based on manufacturing processes (DFM), assembly and test.
- Sizing and selection of components (motors, sensors, bearings, gearbox, pneumatic and hydraulic components, etc.) and material selection and application of design standards.
- Perform calculations and analysis (structural FEA, thermal, dynamics, tolerance stack‑up, etc.).
- Generate detailed drawings and apply GD&T.
- Prepare formal reports and presentations to team members and management.
- Collaborate with team members in the validation of new designs (design and build of test stands, writing of test plans, analysis of test results, etc.).
- Participate in design review meetings and brainstorming sessions.
- Contribute to design risk mitigation including FMEA.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary experts – Analysis, Electrical, Software, Fluid Power, Metallurgy, Manufacturing, Validation/Test.
Qualifications
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) and strong presentation skills.
- Excellent understanding of engineering principles.
- Attention to detail and strong problem solving skills.
- Strong sense of ownership and ability to multitask.
- Creative ability to generate concept designs and select optimal concepts (e.g. selection matrix, TRIZ).
- Proficiency in MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Visio/Project – nice to have).
- Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to integrity and honesty.
- Knowledge of Unigraphics and/or other 3D CAD software is an asset.
- A strong desire to learn about mechanical design and possess strong mechanical aptitude.
- Hands‑on mechanical ability and passion for interests and hobbies outside of work.
