Responsibilities

  • Work within a team of Engineers/Design Specialists in the development of new products, including all steps within a formal product development process.
  • Apply scientific/engineering principles in the design of machines.
  • Execute conceptual and detail design – 3D modeling of parts and assemblies.
  • Optimize design based on manufacturing processes (DFM), assembly and test.
  • Sizing and selection of components (motors, sensors, bearings, gearbox, pneumatic and hydraulic components, etc.) and material selection and application of design standards.
  • Perform calculations and analysis (structural FEA, thermal, dynamics, tolerance stack‑up, etc.).
  • Generate detailed drawings and apply GD&T.
  • Prepare formal reports and presentations to team members and management.
  • Collaborate with team members in the validation of new designs (design and build of test stands, writing of test plans, analysis of test results, etc.).
  • Participate in design review meetings and brainstorming sessions.
  • Contribute to design risk mitigation including FMEA.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary experts – Analysis, Electrical, Software, Fluid Power, Metallurgy, Manufacturing, Validation/Test.

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and strong presentation skills.
  • Excellent understanding of engineering principles.
  • Attention to detail and strong problem solving skills.
  • Strong sense of ownership and ability to multitask.
  • Creative ability to generate concept designs and select optimal concepts (e.g. selection matrix, TRIZ).
  • Proficiency in MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Visio/Project – nice to have).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to integrity and honesty.
  • Knowledge of Unigraphics and/or other 3D CAD software is an asset.
  • A strong desire to learn about mechanical design and possess strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Hands‑on mechanical ability and passion for interests and hobbies outside of work.
