Hush is an ambitious and distinctive fashion brand, with plans to double the business over the next few years. Founded 21 years ago, we are now established as one of the UK’s leading online fashion retailers. We employ around 150 employees across head office and retail, creating and selling a beautiful range of women’s clothing and accessories characterised by effortlessness, simplicity and a laidback sense of style. Despite the challenges to the retail industry, Hush has continued to grow – and our company culture still reflects our entrepreneurial roots and relaxed aesthetic. We love hard-working and talented people with a can-do attitude and a passion for what they do.

As we continue to grow, we're investing heavily in our data capability and are looking for a commercially-minded Senior Data Engineer to lead the evolution of our data platform, insight strategy and AI-driven ways of working. This is not a traditional engineering role. We're looking for someone who can combine strong technical expertise with commercial curiosity; someone who enjoys partnering with stakeholders across the business, asking the right questions, challenging assumptions and turning data into meaningful action. You’ll own the architecture of our data platform, help shape strategic decisions across the business and play a key role in defining how AI is leveraged within our data function.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Own and Evolve Our Data Platform: Lead the architecture and development of our modern data platform, including data warehouse, modelling layer and pipelines. Define and maintain best practices across data modelling, testing, governance and documentation. Ensure the platform remains secure, scalable and high-performing.
  • Partner with the Business: Work closely with Commercial, Merchandising, Marketing and Operations teams to understand priorities and identify opportunities where data can drive better decisions. Translate business challenges into practical data solutions. Build compelling business cases for data initiatives and influence senior stakeholders.
  • Drive Insight and Innovation: Lead the agenda for data-driven decision making across the business. Move rapidly from idea to insight, testing hypotheses and delivering clear recommendations. Apply statistical and machine learning techniques including customer segmentation, predictive modelling, cohort analysis and customer lifetime value modelling. Lead how the data team uses AI-assisted development. Establish standards, conventions and best practices for working with tools such as Cursor and emerging AI technologies. Evaluate and implement new approaches that improve speed, quality and efficiency.
  • Develop Others: Provide technical leadership and mentoring to a Junior Data Engineer. Conduct code reviews, delegate development work and help build capability within the team.
  • Champion a Data-Driven Culture: Maintain reporting models and BI solutions. Enable self-service analytics across the business. Partner with Marketing to co-own customer data and insight.

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience within e-commerce, retail or fashion.
  • Strong SQL expertise and advanced data modelling capability.
  • Significant hands-on experience with dbt.
  • Experience working with modern cloud data warehouses such as BigQuery.
  • Experience with BI platforms such as Power BI, Looker, Superset, Preset or Qlik.
  • Strong understanding of statistical analysis and machine learning techniques.
  • Experience using programming languages such as Python alongside SQL.
  • Demonstrable experience partnering with senior business stakeholders.
  • Outstanding communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • A highly commercial mindset with strong business analysis skills.
  • Curiosity, creativity and a passion for solving business problems through data.
  • Confidence operating in fast-moving, evolving environments.
  • Strong interest in AI and modern engineering practices.

Nice to Have

  • Experience mentoring or leading junior engineers.
  • Experience building data science and predictive analytics solutions within a retail environment.
