Hush is an ambitious and distinctive fashion brand, with plans to double the business over the next few years. Founded 21 years ago, we are now established as one of the UK’s leading online fashion retailers. We employ around 150 employees across head office and retail, creating and selling a beautiful range of women’s clothing and accessories characterised by effortlessness, simplicity and a laidback sense of style. Despite the challenges to the retail industry, Hush has continued to grow – and our company culture still reflects our entrepreneurial roots and relaxed aesthetic. We love hard-working and talented people with a can-do attitude and a passion for what they do.

We’re looking for an Engineering Lead who thrives at the intersection of hands-on coding, technical leadership, and fast-moving product delivery. This is a role for someone who still loves the codebase, but can also step back to own architecture, stability, and team performance in equal measure.

What you’ll be doing

  • Writing production code and leading critical technical implementations
  • Owning production stability, incident response, and urgent escalations
  • Leading, mentoring, and developing engineers through hands-on leadership
  • Designing scalable, serverless-first architectures on AWS
  • Driving CI/CD maturity, automation, and safe deployment practices
  • Managing cloud infrastructure and optimising cost and performance
  • Leading technical delivery with third-party vendors and integration partners
  • Improving code quality, security, observability, and system performance
  • Using data and usage insights to drive continuous improvement and innovation

What we’re looking for

  • Deep understanding of serverless architecture (AWS Lambda, API Gateway, event-driven systems)
  • Background in React, modern frontend frameworks, and distributed systems
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automation, and cloud-native delivery
  • Strong appreciation for UX and collaboration with design teams
  • Proven ability to lead engineers and raise technical standards

Leadership style

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Moves fast and is comfortable making decisions with imperfect information
  • Thinks in systems and constantly looks for better ways of doing things
  • Isn’t afraid to challenge or simplify complexity
  • Learns quickly, adapts, and iterates without ego

Why Hush

Engineering is central to that growth, and this role will play a key part in shaping our platforms, architecture, and ways of working. You’ll have real ownership, influence over technical direction, and the opportunity to make decisions that directly impact scale, performance, and customer experience.

Why you’ll love it here

  • Hybrid working (3/4 days in the office, 1 day from home)
  • A supportive, dynamic, and creative workplace
  • Growth opportunities as we expand and innovate
  • Generous holiday allowance and flexibility to recharge
  • Continuous professional development to keep you ahead of the curve
  • Social events that celebrate our collective achievements
  • Early-finish Fridays and flexible hours for better work-life balance
  • Exclusive company discounts and perks
