Remote-first UK role, with regular time near Tetbury. Huru is building brain-monitoring technology for a future where brain-health data is easier to collect, understand, and use. Our Clic EEG platform is a miniaturised, self-applied wearable designed to make long-duration brain monitoring possible beyond traditional hospital-based pathways. We are already selling research devices internationally and preparing for the next stage of our journey: scaling our research business, strengthening our cloud platform, and launching our medical device in the US.

We are now looking for a Senior Fullstack / Cloud Engineer to become Huru’s first internal hire in this area. You will work alongside our established external software and cloud team, taking increasing ownership of the backend systems, cloud infrastructure, deployment processes, and technical foundations that support Huru’s growth. This is a hands-on role with a clear path towards technical leadership.

What you’ll be doing

  • You will help build, operate, and improve the backend and cloud systems that support Huru’s devices, apps, data pipelines, internal tools, and customer-facing services.
  • Your responsibilities will include:
    • Building and maintaining backend services, primarily using Node.js, with some use of Python.
    • Developing our existing AWS and Kubernetes infrastructure.
    • Improving deployment, monitoring, logging, reliability, and support processes.
    • Helping manage secure data flows between devices, apps, cloud services, and internal systems.
    • Supporting databases, APIs, integrations, and internal tools.
    • Working with external developers and cloud engineers, gradually bringing more technical ownership in-house.
    • Helping set engineering standards for architecture, documentation, testing, deployment, and operational support.
    • Supporting critical production issues within reasonable expectations for a small, growing company.

Because Huru is still a small company, this role will be broad. Some days you may be building a backend feature. Other days you may be investigating a production issue, reviewing Kubernetes deployments, improving monitoring, working with internal and external engineers, or helping decide how a new system should be built.

What we’re looking for

  • You should bring:
    • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with strong backend and/or cloud experience.
    • Comfort working with Python where needed.
    • Experience with Postgres Database.
    • Extensive hands-on experience with AWS (IAM, EKS, RDS, EC2, ECR, S3, CloudFront).
    • Practical experience working with Kubernetes and containerised services.
    • Experience building and maintaining APIs, backend services, and cloud-hosted systems.
    • Good understanding of secure engineering practices, including access control, secrets management, encryption, logging, and careful handling of sensitive data.
    • Experience with CI/CD (Github Actions), monitoring, debugging, and production support.
    • Ability to work independently, communicate clearly, and make pragmatic technical decisions.
    • Interest in growing into a technical lead role as the team scales.

It would be a bonus if you have experience with:

  • Healthtech, medical devices, life sciences, clinical research, diagnostics, neurotechnology, or similar technical sectors.
  • Security-conscious industries such as healthcare, fintech, defence, enterprise SaaS, or regulated B2B environments.
  • Systems that handle sensitive personal data.
  • Observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog, OpenSearch, ELK, or similar.
  • Working in a startup or scale-up where ownership is broad and systems are still maturing.

What kind of person will thrive here

This role will suit someone who wants to build, not just maintain. Huru is growing, and we are bringing more of our backend and cloud capability in-house. You will need to be comfortable working with existing systems, improving them pragmatically, and creating structure as the company scales.

You will thrive here if you are:

  • A strong hands-on engineer who enjoys owning real systems.
  • Practical, security-minded, and commercially aware.
  • Comfortable working with external teams while building internal capability.
  • Clear in how you explain technical decisions and trade-offs.
  • Happy in a small company where priorities can change and responsibilities are broad.
  • Motivated by the opportunity to improve access to objective brain-health monitoring.

Why join Huru

Huru is a small, mission-driven neurotechnology company working on an important problem: making objective brain-health monitoring more accessible. You will join at a stage where your work can directly shape the company’s technical foundations. You will have real ownership, direct access to the founders, and the opportunity to grow into a technical leadership role as Huru scales.

Package

Expected package: competitive salary (50-75k), performance-related bonus, and EMI share options. Exact package will depend on experience and the balance between salary and equity.
