We are thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for an inspiring and forward-thinking Head of Physics to join our high-achieving Science Faculty, where you will lead, develop and inspire a thriving department. The Physics Department is a dynamic and collaborative team of ten specialist teachers, supported by skilled technicians who help bring learning to life. Based in our well-resourced Science block, the department enjoys five spacious, fully equipped laboratories designed to inspire curiosity and discovery. Practical work is central to our teaching ethos, and students benefit from access to an exceptional range of equipment, including class sets of touch-screen data-logging devices with an extensive suite of sensors ensuring every lesson is hands-on, engaging, and rooted in real scientific enquiry. We follow the Edexcel International GCSE (iGCSE) syllabus, with both Triple and Double Award pathways offered. At A-level, Physics is a popular subject, following the OCR specification. Co-curricular opportunities include entry into the British Physics Olympiad, as well as Gold, Silver and Bronze CREST Awards, Arkwright Scholarship applications, weekly extension sessions for aspiring university applicants, including an engineering programme and weekly Physics clinics providing additional support.
As Head of Physics, you will:
- Provide academic leadership, direction and support to the Physics team.
- Maintain and enhance the highest standards of teaching and learning.
- Lead curriculum development to ensure ambitious, engaging and future-focused schemes of work.
- Mentor and support colleagues, promoting a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Manage a team of teaching and support staff to achieve the highest standards for the department.
- Work closely with the Faculty Leader and senior leadership team to implement strategies that challenge and inspire students, whilst ensuring health and safety standards.
- Contribute fully to the wider life of the College, including co-curricular activities and enrichment opportunities.
Qualifications:
- An inspiring, innovative and strategic leader who places the development of young people at the heart of all decisions.
- Substantial experience teaching Physics at A-Level, with a proven track record of excellent outcomes.
- Hold a Bachelor's degree in Physics or a closely related discipline.
- Possess strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to represent the department confidently and collaboratively across the College.
