Hurst Lodge School is an independent special school for children aged 7-19 with a range of additional needs. We pride ourselves on a nurturing environment, a creative curriculum, and a collaborative approach to empower every pupil.
We are seeking to employ an experienced Maintenance Assistant for our Woodlands campus in Crowthorne. The role supports the effective running of the school building as part of the maintenance team, carrying out tasks as directed by the Facilities Manager and Bursar.
Responsibilities:- General maintenance tasks, including minor repairs and other internal and external maintenance around the building and grounds.
- Arrange lunchtime dining areas, moving tables and chairs.
- Empty bins, litter pick, and maintain safe and tidy areas.
- Carry out gate duty in the mornings and afternoons to ensure smooth arrival and departure of parents and staff.
- Ensure the school is unlocked in the morning and securely closed in the afternoon before departure.
- Support the school in providing an atmosphere conducive to effective learning.
- Support the promotion of positive relationships with families and other outside agencies.
- Work within school policies and procedures.
- Attend training as required, including inset days.
- Prioritise health and safety for yourself and others.
- Experience & Skills: Previous experience in a maintenance role is essential, including knowledge of health and safety and the use of related maintenance equipment.
- Personal Qualities: Practical, can-do attitude with a positive outlook and calm, patient demeanor. A team player able to establish working relationships with adults and children.
- Safety & Wellbeing / Safeguarding: Promote the safety and wellbeing of students and follow Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and the school’s child protection policy.
- Professional Development: Maintain up-to-date knowledge by reflecting on practice, liaising with school leaders, and identifying relevant professional development with support from the school.

- Salary and Hours: Competitive salary dependent on experience and qualifications. £22-28k (actual salary). Hours: Monday to Thursday 7:30am–5:00pm, Friday 7:30am–4:00pm (32 academic weeks). Out of term time: Monday to Friday 9:00am–3:00pm. 6 weeks annual leave (to be agreed).
