We are looking for an Estate Caretaker to join our Housing Maintenance team.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in maintaining the appearance, safety and cleanliness of our housing estates across the borough, helping to improve customer satisfaction and community wellbeing.
Working as part of a dedicated area team, you will provide a high-quality caretaking service across communal housing environments, including high-rise and low-rise blocks, communal areas and surrounding housing land.
Your responsibilities will include
- Maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of communal areas, estate grounds and housing environments.
- Carrying out inspections and reporting repairs and health and safety concerns.
- Undertaking minor maintenance and repair tasks.
- Removing litter, graffiti, fly-tipping and bulky waste.
- Assisting with fire safety checks and estate inspections.
- Supporting residents with basic housing-related enquiries.
- Working closely with Housing colleagues, contractors and partner services to resolve local environmental issues.
- Operating across different locations throughout the borough as required.
You will also play an important role in helping to create safer communities by identifying and reporting environmental concerns, anti-social behaviour issues and safeguarding concerns.
We are looking for someone who
- Has experience of working in a caretaking, maintenance, grounds maintenance or similar role, ideally within housing or public services.
- Has good practical skills and can undertake basic repairs and maintenance tasks.
- Communicates effectively with residents, colleagues and partner agencies.
- Can work independently and use their own initiative.
- Remains calm and professional when dealing with challenging situations.
- Is committed to delivering excellent customer service.
- Has an understanding of equality, diversity and health and safety responsibilities.
- Is flexible and willing to work across different locations and as part of a team.
- Full valid driving licence.
- Willingness to undertake a driving assessment to operate a 3.5-tonne vehicle.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
- Awareness of Health and Safety and Fire Safety requirements.
- Willingness to undertake ongoing training and development.
- The post is subject to a
DBS check and driving licence verification.

- This role requires flexibility to work
5 days from 7 , including weekends and bank holidays where required by the service.
