Position: Spiral Operative / relief Warehouse Operative

Directly reports to: Warehouse Coordinator / WC/BM

Monday - Thursday 8am - 5pm, Friday 8am - 4pm, with 30-minutes for lunch

Job purpose: Primarily to provide effective Spiral Operative / relief warehouse duties for our clients business. Duties will include spiral tube production using the Spiral Tube Forming Machine, the close monitoring of both spiral and raw material stocks, the timely production of products to meet demand and delivery requirements, general maintenance and cleaning of Spiral Forming Machine and generally working within systems and procedures laid down by the Company.

Key responsibilities:

  • Adopt, encourage and enforce our clients core values and principles.
  • Produce spirally wound tube of the highest quality, ensuring that all lock seams are tight, that end treatment renders the product safe to handle and the product complies with the Company’s specification and tolerances.
  • Ensure that galvanised spiral tubes are stored in a safe and proper manner, paying particular attention to the Company Policy relating to safe handling and use of PPE.
  • In conjunction with your WC/BM (or other designated person), leave a complete manual of operation at your location and ensure necessary spare parts are on hand for routine servicing problems.
  • Follow proper spills procedures, dealing with all spills and build-up of cutting fluid promptly.
  • Carry out and complete regular general maintenance as defined in the Spiral Machine Maintenance Task Sheet and log the completion of these tasks.
  • Report any breakdown, damage or repair to the WC/BM / Spiral Machine Maintenance Team / Regional Operations Manager as soon as reasonably possible.
  • Ensure safety guards are in place and used at all times, and be aware of all Health & Safety requirements.
  • Accurately count and record all spiral tubes and raw materials for stock takes as directed by the WC/BM.
  • Become familiar with all aspects of the company’s Spiral Forming Machine that relates to your position.
  • Receive and accurately process all Goodsin, checking them for quantity and quality, progressing them to completion.
  • Store away all stock goods in a safe, proper and good manner.
  • Pick / Pack goods for despatch, checking accuracy, correct goods, quantity and quality of goods.
  • Safely load and unload vehicles.
  • Adopt safe manual handling operations, lifting and carrying of goods limited to 25kg per person.
  • Communicate in a professional manner with colleagues, customers, and suppliers.
  • Maintain good stock control, stock monitoring and stock rotation.
  • Ensure a clean and safe warehouse working environment and comply with the Company’s policy on Neatness & Order.
  • Regularly remove scrap packing materials, redundant goods and rubbish.
  • Complete a preshift inspection for all forklifts and leave a log of inspections at your location.
  • Participate in the Company annual stock takes and branch discretionary stock counts.
  • Assist your WC/BM in providing procedural, product and services training to new members of branch staff.
  • Work in accordance with the Company’s Health & Safety Policy and ensure compliance with all statutory regulations.
  • Work in a professional manner and respond to site / customer’s needs to maximise potential sales opportunities.
  • Show a continued commitment to develop product knowledge and attend training courses as required.
  • Any other duties as required to ensure the smooth and efficient day-to-day running of the branch.

Person specification:

  • Experience of manufacturing or machine operation, ideally using spiral forming or similar production machinery.
  • Ability to carry out routine equipment maintenance checks and maintain accurate maintenance records.
  • Understanding of quality standards and ability to produce work to defined specifications and tolerances.
  • Ability to identify and report equipment faults, breakdowns, damage, or repair requirements promptly.
  • Commitment to safe machine operation, ensuring safety guards and control measures are used at all times.
  • Willingness to develop knowledge of spiral forming machinery and associated production processes.
  • Previous warehouse, stores, or logistics experience.
  • Counterbalance forklift truck experience with a current licence.
  • Ability to undertake manual handling duties and safely lift and carry goods up to 25kg.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety requirements, including PPE and safe working practices.
  • Experience of receiving, checking, storing, picking, packing, and dispatching goods accurately.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy when handling stock and completing records.
  • Experience of stock control, stock rotation, stock counting, and inventory management.
  • Effective communication skills with colleagues, customers, and suppliers.
  • Customer-focused and able to provide excellent service in a warehouse and trade counter environment.
  • Reliable, flexible, and willing to learn new processes, products, and systems.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Valid Reach and/or Counterbalance Forklift Licence.
  • Experience working within a trade counter or customer-facing warehouse environment.
  • Experience using warehouse management or stock control systems.
  • Knowledge of HVAC, ducting, ventilation products, or the building supplies industry.
  • Experience assisting with training or mentoring new team members.
