We are seeking a skilled Electronics Engineering Team Leader to head our specialised reverse engineering department. In this role, you will lead a dedicated team of engineers focused on the analysis, fault finding, and complete reconstruction of obsolete, legacy, and hard-to-find electronic assemblies.

You will balance day-to-day personnel management with technical authority, overseeing the journey from physical hardware analysis to the delivery of functional, modern replacements. Your team's work will directly support critical industrial, aerospace, marine, and defence platforms by mitigating severe component obsolescence risks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership & Department Management: Coordinate and allocate workflow for a team of electronics engineers and technicians resolving complex obsolescence challenges. Mentor junior team members and apprentices, sharing advanced techniques in diagnostic testing and hardware teardowns. Foster collaboration between engineers to solve complex technical bottlenecks and maximize departmental throughput.
  • Technical Delivery & Reverse Engineering Authority: Collaborate with the team in analysis of legacy circuit boards (both working and non-working) to successfully map and rebuild modern, functional equivalents. Allocate work effectively for reverse-engineered schematics, multi-layer PCB layouts, and Bill of Materials (BOM) matching. Oversee custom test equipment development, ensuring the team builds bespoke diagnostic rigs to validate legacy or modern equivalent components. Supervise deep diagnostics and component-level fault finding using state-of-the-art laboratory test equipment. Approve technical documentation packs, test reports, and compliance certifications provided to high-profile international clients and government bodies.
  • Obsolescence & Supply Chain Integration: Identify modern alternative components to substitute for obsolete, discontinued, or legacy electronic parts. Evaluate component matching accuracy to safeguard technical compliance with strict international client and defence specifications. Mitigate risks associated with severe component shortages by designing modern, drop-in alternative electronic sub-assemblies.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Degree or equivalent qualification in Electronic Engineering, or extensive vocational experience in legacy electronics.
  • Experience in electronics testing, component-level troubleshooting, and repair, with prior supervisory or team-lead experience.
  • Reverse Engineering Expertise: Track record of successfully extracting schematics from physical multi-layer PCBs and understanding legacy component topologies.
  • Tools & Software: Experience of modern EDA/CAD software (such as Altium Designer) alongside familiarity with legacy architectures.
  • Sector Familiarity: Prior experience handling legacy industrial, avionics, marine, or radar systems is highly advantageous.

Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills to decode hardware without original design data.
  • Excellent clear communication skills to compile comprehensive engineering reports for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Adaptive team mindset capable of balancing shifting commercial priorities across various client sectors.
