Spiral Operative in Basildon

Position: Spiral Operative / relief Warehouse Operative

Directly reports to: Warehouse Coordinator / WC/BM

Monday - Thursday 8am - 5pm, Friday 8am - 4pm, with 30-minutes for lunch

Job purpose

Primarily to provide effective Spiral Operative / relief warehouse duties for our clients business. Duties will include spiral tube production using the Spiral Tube Forming Machine, the close monitoring of both spiral & raw material stocks, the timely production of products to meet demand & delivery requirements, general maintenance & cleaning of Spiral Forming Machine and generally working within systems & procedures laid down by the Company.

Key responsibilities

• At all times; to adopt, encourage and enforce our clients core values and principles.
• To produce spirally wound tube of the highest quality, using the Spiral Forming Machine - ensuring that all lock seams are 'tight', that 'end treatment' renders the product safe to handle and the product complies with the Companys specification and tolerances.
• To ensure that galvanised spiral tubes are stored in a safe and proper manner, and when handling these tubes particular attention is paid to the Company Policy relating to 'safe handling' and use of PPE.
• To ensure that in conjunction with your WC/BM (or other designated person), a complete manual of operation is left at your location and that the necessary spare parts, as per parts list are on hand to deal with routine servicing problems as they occur.
• To follow at all times proper spills procedures, dealing with all spills and build-up of cutting fluid promptly.
• To carry out and complete regular general maintenance as defined in the Spiral Machine Maintenance Task Sheet and log the completion of these tasks.
• Report to the WC/BM / Spiral Machine Maintenance Team / Regional Operations Manager as soon as reasonably possible, any matter of breakdown / damage / repair.
• Work closely with and assist the Spiral Machine Maintenance Team in completely matters of breakdown / damage / repair / annual maintenance.
• To ensure safety guards are in place and used at all times, and be aware of all Health & Safety requirements.
• To accurately count & record, as and when directed by the WC/BM (or other designated person) all spiral tubes and raw materials for the purposes of snap shot or annual stock takes.
• To become familiar with all aspects of the companys Spiral Forming Machine that relates to your position.
• To receive and accurately process in accordance with Company procedures all Goodsin, checking them for quantity and quality, progressing them to completion and to the complete satisfaction of your WC/BM.
• To store away all stock goods in a safe, proper and good manner.
• To Pick / Pack goods for despatch, at all times checking accuracy, correct goods, quantity and quality of goods.
• The safe loading and unloading of vehicles.
• Adopt safe manual handling operations. Lifting and carrying of goods (manual handling) limited to 25kg per person.
• If trained & instructed to do so, to receive and accurately process in accordance with Company procedures, customers orders at the trade counter, progressing them to completion and to the complete satisfaction of the customer.
• At all times and in conjunction with your regional BDM & WC/BM, promote the clients products and services.
• To liaise with other branches, via your WC/BM / other designated person / sales office on stock transfers / transferred orders, keeping the site and / or the customer informed at all times on items such as delivery, shortages and completions, ensuring complete customer satisfaction.
• Maintaining good stock control, stock monitoring and stock rotation.
• Ensuring at all times a clean & safe warehouse working environment and at all times complying with the Companys policy on Neatness & Order.
• To regularly remove, skip and never allow the build-up of scrap packing materials, redundant goods and rubbish.
• To ensure that in conjunction with your WC/BM (or other designated person), a preshift inspection is completed for all forklifts and that a log of inspections is left at your location for inspection at any time.
• To accurately count & record, as and when directed by the WC/BM (or other designated person) items of stock for the purposes of snap shot, month end, ad hoc / discretionary stock counts or annual stock takes.
• To participate in as directed by the WC/BM, the Company annual stock takes / stock counts and branch discretionary / ad hoc stock takes / stock counts.
• At times assist your WC/BM in providing procedural, product and services training to new members of branch staff as is appropriate to your and their role.
• At all times work in accordance with the Companys Health & Safety Policy and ensure compliance with all statutory regulations.
• To also work within the confines of and abide to the Companys Risk Assessments and Control Measures.
• To always work within the confines of and abide by the Companys staff & site rules.
• At all times work within and abide by the confines of all other Company policies including but not limited too; Disciplinary Procedures, Equal Opportunities, Dignity at Work, Grievance Procedures, Anti-Corruption, Code of Ethics and Social Media policy.
• To work in a professional manner and to respond to site / customers needs in the appropriate way to maximise potential sales opportunities and maintain good customer relations.
• Communicate in a professional manner with colleagues, other branches and staff, to be supportive and courteous at all times and maintain good working relationships.
• To show a continued commitment to develop product knowledge and attend training courses / presentations / seminars / factory visits as and when required to do so.
• Any other such duties as maybe required to ensure the smooth and efficient day-to-day running of the branch.

Limits of authority

• Ordering raw material stocks without prior approval of WC/BM (or other designated person).
• To not knowingly allow the release goods to companies on the Stop list without direct instruction from your WC/BM.
• To not knowingly allow the release goods to trade counter cash sales without first confirming receipt of monies.
• To not accept the return of any items without the prior approval of your WC/BM (or other designated person).
• To not handle cash and credit card payments associated with trade counter sales unless trained and instructed to do so.
• To not work overtime hours without the prior approval of your BM.

Person specification

• Must have experience of manufacturing or machine operation, ideally using spiral forming or similar production machinery.
• Must be able to carry out routine equipment maintenance checks and maintain accurate maintenance records.
• Must have an understanding of quality standards and the ability to produce work to defined specifications and tolerances.
• Must be able to identify and report equipment faults, breakdowns, damage, or repair requirements promptly.
• Must demonstrate a commitment to safe machine operation, ensuring safety guards and control measures are used at all times.
• Must be willing to develop knowledge of spiral forming machinery and associated production processes.
• Must have previous warehouse, stores, or logistics experience.
• Must have counterbalance forklift truck experience with a current licence.
• Must be able to undertake manual handling duties and safely lift and carry goods up to 25kg.
• Must have a strong understanding of health and safety requirements, including PPE and safe working practices.
• Must have experience of receiving, checking, storing, picking, packing, and dispatching goods accurately.
• Must demonstrate excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy when handling stock and completing records.
• Must have experience of stock control, stock rotation, stock counting, and inventory management.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with colleagues, customers, and suppliers in a professional manner.
• Must be customer-focused and able to provide excellent service in a warehouse and trade counter environment.
• Must be reliable, flexible, and willing to learn new processes, products, and systems while supporting the wider branch team.

Desirable Criteria

• Valid Reach and/or Counterbalance Forklift Licence.
• Experience working within a trade counter or customer-facing warehouse environment.
• Experience using warehouse management or stock control systems.
• Knowledge of HVAC, ducting, ventilation products, or the building supplies industry.
• Experience assisting with training or mentoring new team members.
