Huntsman has an opportunity for an experienced Process Safety Engineer with deep knowledge of Functional Safety to join our Global Process Safety Centre of Excellence. This is an exciting opportunity for a proven Process Safety Engineer to guide the development of the company’s process safety program as well as provide expert support to Huntsman’s operating sites. This is a key, business‑critical role within our organization, responsible for strengthening our global standards and ensuring robust process safety performance across all regions. The position is fully remote, offering flexibility regarding work location. Please note that this is also a highly travel‑intensive role.
Role Responsibilities
- Providing internal resource to sites for process safety studies, particularly leading LOPA/SIL Assessments.
- Delivering specialist expertise in areas of process safety with a particular focus on Functional Safety.
- Delivering Design support for Safety Instrumented Functions.
- Performing Design Verification and FSA studies for SIS/SIFs.
- When required, leading and participating in process safety related incident investigations.
- Developing and delivering training in Process Safety methodologies.
- Participating in the Process Safety Audit program, including the self-audit program for Huntsman sites.
Experience and Competencies
We are looking for experienced candidates with hands-on experience within an international context. What we are looking for:
- Bachelor of Science degree, ideally within Chemical Engineering or Instrumentation.
- Professional Engineer experience in process or equipment design and/or operations with specific experience in Process Safety.
- Strong communication and influencing skills.
- SIL Assessment experience, familiarity with risk identification and reduction techniques, in addition to familiarity with failure mechanisms, protection systems and their design.
- Hold a recognised qualification in Functional Safety for the process sector such as CFSE (Certified Functional Safety Expert), TUV FS Eng or equivalent.
- Ability to travel around 50% - 65% within Europe, including occasional travel to other regions.
- Knowledge of process safety regulations and legislations with particular focus on IEC/ISA 61511.
- Fluency in English, verbal and written, is essential to perform studies across the region and produce reports of high quality and accuracy.
- A detailed knowledge or ability in any of the following disciplines is advantageous:
- Ability to Facilitate Process Hazard Analysis (PHA).
- Practical knowledge of Area classification and management.
- Practical knowledge of Alarm Management.
- Practical knowledge of human factors.
