Join HDC as a Planning Technical Officer, where you'll play a vital role in the registration, validation and technical assessment of planning applications and appeals. As a Planning Technical Officer, you'll play a fundamental role in the planning department, validating planning applications and appeals to meet statutory and local standards, including biodiversity net gain criteria. While liaising with applicants and agents, you will provide clear communication regarding submission requirements to guide them through the application process. You'll provide essential technical and administrative support to planning teams, champion excellent customer service by resolving public queries, and ensure GDPR-compliant publication of planning documents. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is eager to make a positive impact in our community.

We're seeking a proactive problem-solver, accountable and detail-oriented individual with a strong administrative background and a genuine interest in local planning. You'll need to demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills, able to engage confidently with applicants, agents, officers and the public. A keen understanding and interest in planning validation and procedures is important. Experience using planning software, GIS tools and document management systems is highly desirable. You should be highly organised and capable of managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. We're looking for someone who is collaborative, discreet, and ethical, able to handle sensitive information responsibly.

These roles work a hybrid office model with Tuesdays and Wednesdays as in-office team days. We will still include work from home and flexi-time opportunities in order to provide a good work-life balance whilst still ensuring that teams benefit from in-person interaction. Candidates should therefore be within commutable distance of our offices in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire and be able to attend meetings as required.
