Customs & Imports Operations Specialist - Tariff Classification Focus Bradford, Permanent, Full-time £45,000 Hybrid (2 days office based) An established UK-based organisation is seeking a detail-oriented Customs & Imports Operations Specialist to join a small, high-performing team focused on ensuring customs compliance for HMRC-controlled imports. This role is particularly suited to someone with strong experience in tariff classification, excellent analytical skills, and a passion for getting the details right. This is not an entry-level role - we\'re looking for someone who already knows tariff classification and enjoys working with data, spreadsheets, and regulatory detail. The successful candidate will be instrumental in maintaining customs compliance, running daily bonded stock checks, and supporting customs enquiries in the absence of the Imports Manager. Key Responsibilities: Accurately classify imported goods in line with HMRC tariffs - a critical task determining the level of duty payable Ensure all customs declarations via the Langdons Duty Management System (DMS) are correct, timely, and compliant Run daily and monthly reports on bonded stock and check for compliance issues or entry errors Act as a point of contact for customs queries, deputising for the Imports Manager as needed Monitor and update tariff changes Liaise with freight forwarders, suppliers, and internal buying teams to ensure accurate documentation and smooth clearance Oversee transit documentation, particularly for road freight from Europe Maintain clear, auditable records to support HMRC audits or duty claims Participate in ad hoc projects and contribute to improvements in customs processes and systems What We\'re Looking For: Proven experience in tariff classification - this is a specialist role that requires prior knowledge and confidence in applying classification codes Background in freight forwarding, import/export operations, or within a retailer or supplier/importer environment High level of attention to detail, with a natural ability to spot inconsistencies in data and documentation Excellent Excel skills and strong general data handling ability Understanding of transit declarations and experience with European road traffic customs procedures Familiarity with Langdon or Descartes systems is highly desirable Comfortable working independently in a small, collaborative team, where flexibility and reliability are key Why This Role?
