Who We Are

HII Mission Technologies is seeking a Fleet Synthetic Training and Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) Operations Planner to provide advanced operational expertise in BMD, Aegis tactics, and Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD). In this role, you will support the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Corona’s Navy Integrated Training Environment (NITE) Operations Team, contributing to the Navy’s growing effort to integrate Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) capabilities across fleet training events.

This position plays a key part in ensuring that live units and virtual/constructive participants can detect, track, classify, and engage one another—using both kinetic and non‑kinetic effects—while operating within realistic technical and operational constraints. The role is based at NAS Oceana Dam Neck Annex and includes periodic local travel to customer sites in Virginia Beach and Norfolk, Virginia. Flexibility is essential, as duties and responsibilities may evolve to support changing mission, customer, and contractual requirements.

What You Will Do

  • Serves as Operations Planner for NCTE supported exercise/training events.
  • Collaborates with the Navy Combatant Commands and other exercise stakeholders (MDA, NATO, US Air Force, US Army) for training event operational requirements and collaborates with the NCTE Operations Lead to ensure event requirements are met.
  • Create Project Pages to track Plans of Action and Milestones (POAM) from event planning phase through execution.
  • Assist with Master Scenario Event List (MSEL) inputs and build simulation scenarios based on various training objectives in support of Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) events.
  • Provide on site support of weekly off-hours exercises and attend all planning conference/seminars.
  • Collaborate with NCTE Operations Lead and Engineering Technical Lead with validation of manning plans and event situational reports.

Bonus Points For Having!

  • Experience as an Interface Control Officer (ICO), Navy Ops Tech LDO, Ordnance LDO on an AEGIS BMD platform or Air Force Operations Staff Officer.
  • Experience with building and running scenarios within simulation systems, such as JSAF, BFTT BOPC, AWSIM, etc.
  • Qualified as Tactical Actions Officer (TAO) or Ballistic Missile Defense Officer (BMDO) on an AEGIS BMD platform.
  • Experience as Air Intercept Controller (AIC) or Air Battle Manager (ABM).
  • Experience with Project Management tools, such as Jira and Confluence.
  • Knowledge of tactical data link (TDL) systems such as Link 16 and Link 22 with regard to BMDS support.
  • Experience working with Joint/Coalition commands in a tactical environment.

What You Must Have

  • 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.
  • Candidate must have operational warfighter experience supporting Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) missions.
  • Candidate must have demonstrated experience on a Combat Systems Training Team and/or in a Senior Enlisted Leader position.
  • Candidate must have a valid US Passport for occasional OCONUS travel (annually).
  • Candidate must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and be comfortable engaging with stakeholders at all levels, both inside and outside the organization.
  • Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Candidate must hold, and be able to maintain, an active U.S. Secret clearance.

Physical Requirements

May require working in an office, industrial, shipboard, or laboratory environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances.
