Who We Are
Join HII as we keep the world's most powerful Navy afloat! The HII Platform Modernization (PM) Team Lead will support shipboard alteration and installation efforts for fleet modernization across active-class surface ships. The selected candidate will lead and coordinate skilled trades teams performing system removals, installations, repairs, and upgrades on naval vessels and shore installations. This role requires advanced technical knowledge across multiple trades, strong leadership skills, and the ability to travel up to 75% as required by contract and project demands. The Team Lead will oversee work quality, schedule execution, customer interactions, and compliance with NAVSEA and program requirements.
What You Will Do

- Lead multi-trade technical teams in shipboard installations, repairs, and alterations.
- Manage, schedule, and assign tasks across multiple jobs and contract types.
- Apply advanced understanding of production and trade-specific tools and processes.
- Install, upgrade, remove, maintain, and repair shipboard and integrated systems.
- Perform diagnostics and troubleshoot equipment to resolve issues efficiently.
- Perform quality inspections and provide on-site training and mentorship.
- Maintain strong customer communication; manage subcontractors and provide work direction.
- Conduct non-routine tasks outside of specialty when required to complete project scope.
- Develop, update, and maintain technical documents, work packages, test reports, and trip reports.
- Attend required meetings and provide briefings to customers and senior management.
- Travel to shipyards and military bases across the country and internationally as needed.
What You Must Have
- High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 6 years of related Alteration Installation Team experience to include at least 2 years of team/deck lead experience.
- Experience troubleshooting and repairing marine systems and associated equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, manuals, and schematics.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, PDF platforms, and Windows-based systems.
- Must provide personal hand tools per trade specialty requirements.
- Ability to follow and enforce safety procedures and work practices.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance and base access.
- Ability to travel 50–75% when not supporting local tasking.
- Ability to obtain required certifications within 180 days of hire (Shipyard Competent Person, QC Inspector, Welding Workmanship Inspector, Asbestos Inspector).

- Active or current DoD security clearance.
- OSHA 10 Maritime certification.

Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
