Looking for a role where you can make a real difference every day? As our Taxi Compliance Officer, you’ll help keep people safe, support high standards in the taxi and private hire trade, and play a key part in shaping how new national changes are introduced locally.
This is a varied, hands‑on role within our Licensing Team, focused on supporting safe, fair and well‑regulated taxi and private hire services across the district. You’ll carry out compliance checks, respond to complaints, work with partners, and help licence holders understand what’s expected of them. Over the next 18 months, you’ll also support the Council in responding to new National Taxi Standards and preparing for the introduction of a new licensing regime linked to upcoming tobacco and vape legislation. You’ll be part of a supportive team that values being Accountable, Collaborative and Respectful, and you’ll have the opportunity to help shape how change is implemented on the ground.
Responsibilities

- Respond to complaints and inquiries from the public and licence holders.
- Work with partners to ensure high standards of service and safety.
- Help licence holders understand what’s expected of them.
- Support the Council in responding to new National Taxi Standards.
- Prepare for the introduction of a new licensing regime linked to upcoming tobacco and vape legislation.

About you
You’ll be confident, approachable and comfortable working with a wide range of people. You’re organised, calm under pressure, and able to deal with tricky situations in a fair and professional way. You might come from a regulatory, compliance, enforcement or customer‑facing background, and you’ll be keen to learn as legislation and standards evolve. Most importantly, you care about doing the right thing, supporting public safety, and being part of a team that takes pride in its work.
