This means we must employ and retain the most talented and dedicated people. Situated within the heart of the Cambridge-Peterborough Growth Area, Huntingdonshire is a beautiful district that boasts thriving market towns and many attractive villages, each with its own identity. We are an innovative and forward-thinking local authority whose residents are at the heart of our decision-making.

Job details: Alert, calm and confident in the deep end? We’re looking for Variable Qualified Lifeguards to join our One Leisure team in St Neots. If you love working with people, thrive in an active role and can keep a watchful eye on the water, this could be right up your lane.

This role sits within One Leisure and hours are variable, offering flexibility. You’ll be working as part of an experienced and supportive leisure team, reporting to a Leisure Centre Supervisor and supporting the wider centre management team. A National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) is required, although training and support can be provided if you’re not quite there yet.

About the role: You’ll supervise swimming pool sessions, respond confidently to incidents and emergencies, and help maintain safe, high-quality facilities by carrying out water testing and supporting daily operations. You’ll also play a key part in delivering great customer service, ensuring everyone enjoys their visit while following safety rules – yes, that includes no running poolside.

About You: You’re reliable, observant and comfortable working in a busy pool environment. You communicate well, work effectively as part of a team and take safety seriously, while still being friendly and approachable. Flexibility to work across sites and a willingness to learn are essential, with leisure experience a bonus.

Ideally, you’ll already hold a National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ), with additional experience in a leisure environment being an advantage. However, what really matters is your willingness to learn, your flexibility to work across different sites and shifts, and your commitment to delivering excellent service. If you’re reliable, enthusiastic and ready to dive into a varied role, you’ll fit right in.

This role is subject to a satisfactory DBS check. An offer of employment is conditional upon having the right to work in the UK. HDC does not hold a Sponsorship Licence and is unable to provide a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) or take over sponsorship for any role.

Working for the council: As an employer who values diversity of thought, we seek to employ candidates from a range of backgrounds in order to make our organisation more innovative. We are seeking candidates who are looking for their next career opportunity and who are supported by a collaborative environment that encourages high standards and employee-led work.

Equality, diversity and inclusion are at the heart of our recruitment and, along with our values, we are committed to creating an inclusive working environment, where diversity is valued and there is equality of opportunity. We therefore welcome applications from all sections of the community and we offer a range of benefits, including flexitime, to encourage a work-life balance.
