Job details: Huntingdonshire District Council is continuing to improve the way it works to ensure services are efficient, resilient, and able to meet the needs of local residents and businesses. A key part of this is making sure that key corporate functions are well supported and have the right systems, processes, and information in place. This role will provide administrative support across the Council’s Risk Management and Insurance functions. The role will also provide support to the Risk Management function, helping with the coordination of implementing the risk management strategy, risk reviews, workshops, reporting and engagement across the organisation.
This post will help address by supporting day-to-day administration, improving records and documentation, and helping to refresh the Insurance functions' ways of working. This will include creating clear files, guidance, and process notes so that information is easier to access, understand, and maintain. You will play a key part in protecting the Council’s financial, operational and reputational position, while helping our services remain responsive and effective. This is a varied and impactful role that will contribute directly to how the Council manages risk, supports its people, and serves its communities; for someone who is well organised, comfortable working with information and systems, and motivated by improving how services operate.
About The Role
- Administrative Support: Assist in the administration of the day-to-day insurance programme, including logging and progressing claims, maintaining policy and claims records, collating data for renewals, and responding to routine insurance queries from officers and the public.
- Provide support to ensure the Council’s risk registers are regularly updated, including accurate data entry and user access administration.
- General Administration: Manage correspondence, scheduling, record-keeping and document control across both functions, ensuring information is well-organised, accurate and accessible.
- Reporting and Governance Support: Assist in the development of a suite of reports to inform the organisation, both Officers and Members of its risk and how these are managed. Prepare risk and insurance reports, briefings, and presentations for management, and other assurance audiences, including collating data and producing first drafts.
- Improvement and Organisation Contribution: Proactively identify opportunities to improve administrative processes, systems and ways of working across both functions, contributing ideas to enhance efficiency, data quality, and service. Support the wider development of the Council’s risk and insurance maturity by helping to embed consistent practice, maintain accurate management information, and ensure both functions contribute effectively to corporate governance and assurance objectives.
- Stakeholder/Partner Communications: Act as a professional and helpful point of contact for internal stakeholders, insurer, brokers etc., managing routine correspondence with discretion and care. Build effective working relationships across the organisation and with external bodies – including those involved in Local Government Reorganisation – to ensure risk and insurance information is shared accurately, promptly, and appropriately.
About You
- Highly organised and methodical, taking genuine pride in getting the details right and bringing order to busy, varied workloads.
- Hold yourself to high standards of accuracy, particularly when handling data, financial information, and sensitive or confidential information.
- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
- Experience or an understanding of risk management, insurance, governance or a related discipline, OR, curious, quick to learn and motivated to build expertise in the field.
- Ability to analyse information, identify risks or issues, and contribute to practical and proportionate solutions.
- Confident with IT and Microsoft Office/SharePoint, and happy to learn and master specialist systems once shown how they work.
- Experience of working in a complex organisation.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues and external stakeholders alike.
- Work well independently, use your initiative, and know when to ask questions.
