About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to step into a pivotal leadership role where you will shape how environmental crime and community issues are tackled across the district, while leading a dedicated and purpose‑driven team.
- Lead and inspire a team of Community Action Officers, driving a proactive, intelligence‑led approach to environmental crime, anti‑social behaviour and wider community concerns.
- Take ownership of the service’s evolution, shaping prevention initiatives, enforcement strategies and awareness campaigns that genuinely improve residents’ quality of life.
- Oversee pest control services and coordinate responses to environmental crime, ensuring a consistent, effective and victim‑focused service.
- Collaborate closely with partners such as the police, housing providers and community groups, often leading complex cases and high‑profile issues.
- Provide tactical oversight, make decisions and ensure all activity is compliant with legislation while remaining proportionate and community‑focused.
- Manage competing priorities, maintain attention to detail and quality, and continuously improve service delivery.
About you
- Experienced professional with a strong background in environmental crime, enforcement or community safety.
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to motivate, develop and guide a team to deliver outstanding results.
- Strong understanding of relevant legislation and investigative practices, confident in applying them to achieve fair and effective outcomes.
- Capable of assessing risk, managing complex cases and making sound, defensible decisions.
- Excellent communicator, able to build trust with residents, partner agencies and senior stakeholders and to de‑escalate sensitive situations.
- Highly organised, adaptable and able to manage competing priorities while maintaining quality.
- Passion for public service and commitment to a victim‑focused approach, embodying values of collaboration, accountability, respect and innovation.
The role is 37 hours a week, with a flexible working policy. The post holder will require vetting/DBS prior to start of employment.
