Situated within the heart of the Cambridge-Peterborough Growth Area, Huntingdonshire is a beautiful district that boasts thriving market towns and many attractive villages, each with its own identity. We are an innovative and forward-thinking local authority whose residents are at the heart of our decision-making. Are you ready to start your career in a professional, supportive environment where your work makes a real impact? Do you want to play a part in shaping how communities grow and develop? We’re looking for a Business Administration Apprentice to join our Planning Service, working at the heart of the council’s growth agenda within our Implementation Team. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience while developing valuable, transferable skills. You’ll support work that helps deliver infrastructure, community facilities and sustainable development across the district - building the foundations for a rewarding career in local government, business administration or planning.

About The Role

As a Business Administration Apprentice, you’ll be a key part of the Implementation Team, supporting the delivery and management of developer contributions, including Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) and Section 106 (S106) agreements. These contributions play a vital role in funding the infrastructure and services needed to support growing communities - meaning your work will directly contribute to real, visible improvements across the district.

Responsibilities

  • Support the monitoring and administration of CIL and S106 agreements, helping ensure contributions are tracked, managed and delivered effectively.
  • Maintain accurate records, databases and trackers, building strong data management and organisational skills.
  • Act as a first point of contact for enquiries, providing helpful and professional support to colleagues, developers and members of the public.
  • Assist in preparing reports, correspondence and project documentation.
  • Contribute to project work aligned with the council’s ambitious growth plans.
  • Gain insight into how planning, funding and infrastructure come together to support sustainable development.

This is a varied and dynamic role where no two days are the same - giving you the chance to develop experience across administration, data analysis, customer service and project support, while learning from experienced professionals.

About You

You are motivated, organised and eager to learn, with a genuine interest in building a career in business administration or local government. You’ll bring:

  • Strong communication skills and a friendly, professional approach.
  • A positive attitude and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail, particularly when working with data and records.
  • Confidence using IT systems such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • A commitment to delivering excellent customer service.
  • A proactive mindset, with a willingness to get involved and take initiative.

Above all, you’ll be enthusiastic about developing your skills and playing a part in supporting the growth and future prosperity of Huntingdonshire’s communities.

An offer of employment is conditional upon having the right to work in the UK. HDC does not hold a Sponsorship Licence and is unable to provide a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) or take over sponsorship for any role.
