Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC) is passionate about providing high-quality services to our communities, residents and businesses. This means we must employ and retain the most talented and dedicated people. Situated within the heart of the Cambridge-Peterborough Growth Area, Huntingdonshire is a beautiful district that boasts thriving market towns and many attractive villages, each with its own identity. We are an innovative and forward-thinking local authority whose residents are at the heart of our decision-making.
At HDC we want to employ staff who embody our icare values (Inspiring, Collaborative, Accountable, Respectful, Enterprising), all of which support our ultimate purpose of putting our customers first.
Ever fancied taking the next step and leading a team in an exciting, brand new outdoor water attraction? Want to be the person people look to for direction, safety and great experiences? HDC is launching a brand new aquapark and open water swimming experience at Hinchingbrooke Country Park – and we’re looking for confident, hands-on supervisors to help bring it to life. This is your chance to be there from day one, helping shape how things run and setting the tone for an incredible customer experience.
As an Aquapark Supervisor, you’ll be the on-site lead during your shift, making sure everything runs safely, smoothly and exactly as it should. You’ll guide and support lifeguards and aquapark staff, keep operations on track and step in when decisions need to be made. You’ll spend your time across the site, from coordinating sessions and checking equipment to monitoring water safety and responding to anything the day throws at you. One moment you might be briefing your team, the next you’ll be dealing with a customer query or supporting an incident, always staying calm, professional and in control.
You’ll also play a key role behind the scenes, supporting rotas, completing safety checks, keeping accurate records and making sure all procedures are followed. This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll help shape a positive, safety-first culture while creating a fantastic experience for everyone who visits. No two days will feel the same. It’s active, outdoors and full of responsibility – but that’s what makes it so rewarding.
You’re someone people naturally look to for guidance. You’re confident leading from the front, keeping calm under pressure and making clear, sensible decisions even when things get busy. You have experience working in a water-based, leisure or safety-focused environment and have stepped into a supervisory or lead role before. You understand the importance of safety, but you also know how to create a positive, approachable atmosphere for both customers and team members.
You’re organised, reliable and comfortable juggling different priorities, whether that’s supporting your team, handling operational tasks or responding to situations as they arise. You enjoy working outdoors, being part of a close-knit team and taking ownership of your shift. Whether you’re already qualified or looking to build on your skills, you’re motivated, proactive and ready to step up and make an impact.
The dates for training:
- 13 - 15 July for Open Water Lifeguard (OWL) Qualification
- 16 and 17 July for Aquapark Module
Every candidate attending an OWL course must:
- be 16 years old or over at the time of assessment
- be competent and confident in open water
- be able to submerge under the water confidently
- be able to swim at least 400 metres in a pool/open water, swimming continuously on their front and showing urgency.
