The Film, Television & Theatre Group is a highly respected specialist practice within the firm, advising leading clients across film production, television, theatre, and live entertainment. The team is recognised for its expertise in rights, production, financing, and distribution matters, and is frequently instructed by producers, studios, financiers, and creative talent operating at the forefront of the entertainment industry. The group works closely with other specialist teams within the firm to provide integrated advice across commercial, intellectual property, corporate, and finance matters relevant to the entertainment sector.

The Role

The firm is seeking two outstanding commercial lawyers at Senior Associate level to join its Film, Television & Theatre Group. These are highly sought-after positions working alongside leading partners and senior lawyers who are recognised as experts in the field by independent legal directories. The successful candidates will advise on a broad range of rights-based, production, financing, and commercial matters across the film, television, theatre, and live events industries.

Candidates should have a genuine passion for the entertainment industry, alongside strong technical expertise in commercial contract and intellectual property law. Experience within the sector is highly desirable, although candidates with strong commercial contracting backgrounds and transferable skills will also be considered. These roles are suited to individuals with approximately 5–9 years’ PQE, who are confident, outgoing, and commercially minded, with the ability to manage transactions independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment. The successful individuals will be expected to provide pragmatic and commercially focused advice, build strong client relationships, and play an active role in mentoring junior lawyers and supporting business development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advising producers, studios, and financiers on rights-based issues, including chain of title, option agreements, and creator contracts.
  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements across development, production, financing, and distribution.
  • Advising on structuring arrangements for productions, investment deals, and content exploitation.
  • Supporting clients with day-to-day legal issues arising throughout the lifecycle of film, television, theatre, and live event productions.
  • Negotiating talent, production, commissioning, and rights acquisition agreements.
  • Providing general commercial and intellectual property advice relevant to the entertainment sector.
  • Collaborating with colleagues across corporate, finance, and IP teams to deliver integrated legal solutions.
  • Assisting in business development and the cultivation of new and existing client relationships.
  • Mentoring and supervising junior lawyers within the team.

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will be:

  • Experienced in commercial contracts, with exposure to or a strong interest in the film, television, theatre, or wider entertainment industries.
