The Board of Governors of Hunterhouse College invites applications for the temporary position of Teacher of Geography, commencing in August 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. This post is to provide maternity leave cover and is expected to span the Autumn and Spring Terms of the 2026/27 academic year, with the potential for extension beyond this period.

Salary: Main Scale.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential Criteria

  • An Honours Degree in Geography or a related subject as the appointments panel considers appropriate (minimum classification 2.2).
  • Qualified teacher status as of August 2026.
  • Experience (within the last three years) of teaching Geography to GCSE Level in a post-primary school (teaching practice accepted).

Desirable Criteria

  • An Honours Degree in Geography or a related subject as the appointments panel considers appropriate (minimum classification 2.1).
  • Experience (within the last three years) in a post-primary school of teaching Geography to A Level (teaching practice accepted).
  • Experience in a post-primary school of teaching CCEA Leisure Travel and Tourism (teaching practice accepted).
  • Experience (within the last three years) in a post-primary school of teaching additional subjects (teaching practice accepted).

The Board of Governors reserves the right to enhance the essential criteria if necessary in order to facilitate a manageable shortlist. The onus is on the applicant to provide sufficiently detailed information on their application form in order to fully demonstrate how they meet each of the specified criteria. The Shortlisting Panel is not able to make assumptions in the absence of essential information. On taking up the post the successful candidate must be a registered teacher with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI).
