IPS is seeking a skilled and motivated Pumps Fitter to join our Pumps Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, repair, overhaul, assembly, and testing of a wide range of industrial pumps and associated rotating equipment.Working as part of a specialist team, you will apply strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills to deliver high-quality repairs and exceptional customer service. You will also support IPS's commitment to continuous improvement, safety, and operational excellence.Key ResponsibilitiesInspect, diagnose, dismantle, repair, overhaul, and reassemble a variety of industrial pumps and associated equipment.Identify faults, wear patterns, and component failures, recommending appropriate repair solutions.Carry out pump strip-downs and detailed inspections, recording findings accurately.Replace and fit bearings, seals, shafts, impellers, wear rings, sleeves, gaskets, and other pump components.Measure and record critical dimensions, tolerances, fits, and clearances using precision measuring equipment.Assemble pumps in accordance with manufacturer specifications and engineering drawings.Conduct hydrostatic pressure testing, performance testing, and final inspections where required.Prepare completed equipment for customer collection or shipment.Maintain accurate repair documentation and inspection records.Participate in daily production meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with company quality, health, safety, and environmental procedures.Skills and ExperienceProven experience in the repair, overhaul, and maintenance of industrial pumps and rotating equipment.Strong mechanical knowledge and fault-finding ability.Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, and repair specifications.Experience using precision measuring equipment including:Vernier calipersMicrometersDial indicatorsBore gaugesDepth gaugesUnderstanding of pump types, including centrifugal, positive displacement, and submersible pumps.Knowledge of bearings, seals, couplings, shafts, and alignment techniques.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.Good communication and organisational skills.Essential RequirementsTime-served mechanical fitter, pump fitter, maintenance fitter, or equivalent engineering qualification.Ability to perform basic engineering calculations and measurements.Commitment to safe working practices and company procedures.Willingness to undertake job-related training and development.Flexibility to work overtime and weekends when required to meet customer demands.Desirable ExperienceExperience working within a pump repair, rotating equipment, engineering workshop, or industrial maintenance environment.Knowledge of laser alignment equipment.Experience with condition monitoring and vibration analysis.Familiarity with quality management systems and inspection processes.What We Are Looking ForWe are looking for a proactive, safety-conscious individual who takes pride in producing high-quality work.
