An established and growing structural steel fabrication company is seeking an experienced Steel Fabrication Draughtsman / Structural Steel Designer to join its expanding team. The business specialises in the design, manufacture, and installation of bespoke steel buildings across commercial, agricultural, and industrial sectors. This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of and develop an in-house design and detailing function. The successful candidate will work closely with senior leadership and fabrication teams, playing a key role in delivering a diverse range of steel building projects.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Create detailed 3D models and general arrangement drawings for structural steel buildings
  • Produce fabrication drawings, schedules, and fully detailed steel connections and assemblies
  • Support structural design by assisting with calculations and preparing documentation for external engineer approval
  • Collaborate with architects and engineers while contributing to the development of internal design and detailing processes

Requirements:

  • Proven experience detailing structural steel buildings, including portal frame structures
  • Strong capability in producing accurate, fabrication-ready drawings
  • Solid understanding of structural steel connections and detailing principles
  • Knowledge of secondary steel systems such as purlins and rails, with familiarity of UK structural design standards
