A leading UK energy and engineering consultancy specialising in low-carbon heating and district energy networks is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing team and play a key role in designing and specifying low-carbon commercial heating projects.

What You'll Do:

  • Develop detailed mechanical and building services designs for plant rooms and heat distribution systems (RIBA/BSRIA Stages 3 & 4).
  • Produce design documentation and construction drawings, including schematics, GA drawings, technical specifications, and schedules.
  • Use CAD, Revit, and SketchUp to deliver coordinated designs.
  • Perform heat load, cooling load, and pipework/ductwork sizing calculations.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to deliver efficient, integrated solutions.
  • Conduct site surveys and assess existing plant room arrangements.
  • Support tendering processes and review contractor proposals.
  • Ensure compliance with Building Regulations, CIBSE, IET, HSE, and sustainability targets.
  • Manage design projects and procurement packs.
  • Provide on-site engineering support during construction and commissioning.
  • Chair client/project meetings and manage project documentation.
  • Mentor and develop junior staff.

What We're Looking For:

  • Degree or HND/HNC in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Proven experience in designing heating plant rooms and building services systems.
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Chartership (CIBSE, IMechE, IET) desirable but not essential.
  • Experience in renewable/low-carbon energy systems is a plus.
