Due to continued growth and investment, our client, a well-established and successful manufacturing business based in Lisburn, is looking to appoint an experienced Engineering Manager. This is a senior leadership appointment and a significant opportunity to take full ownership of the engineering and maintenance function within a specialist, fast-paced manufacturing environment.

The successful Engineering Manager will report at senior level and lead a structure that includes a Maintenance Manager and a team of shift engineers, with full responsibility for all engineering activity, capital expenditure, facilities and planned preventative maintenance across the site.

The Role

  • Take full responsibility for all engineering and maintenance activity across the site, ensuring safe, efficient and reliable operations at all times
  • Lead, develop and performance manage a team structure incorporating a Maintenance Manager and shift engineers, building capability and driving a culture of high performance and continuous improvement
  • Own and deliver the planned preventative maintenance programme across all site plant and equipment, driving asset reliability and minimising unplanned production downtime
  • Take full ownership of all capital expenditure projects, from initial scoping and business case preparation through to contractor appointment, project delivery and commissioning
  • Manage all facilities across the site including utilities, building fabric, compressed air systems and all statutory compliance activities
  • Manage the engineering budget in full, controlling spend on spare parts, maintenance services, contractor costs and capital investment against agreed targets
  • Manage all contractor and supplier activity on site, ensuring compliance with health and safety, permit to work systems and quality standards at all times
  • Ensure full site compliance with health and safety legislation, environmental requirements and all relevant manufacturing and quality standards
  • Drive continuous improvement across engineering, reliability and facilities, identifying and delivering initiatives that reduce costs, improve asset performance and increase production uptime
  • Monitor and report on engineering KPIs to senior leadership, providing clear and consistent visibility of maintenance and facilities performance across the site
  • Collaborate closely with production, quality and technical teams to support operational performance and minimise the impact of engineering activity on output

The Person

  • Degree or HNC in Mechanical, Electrical or a related Engineering discipline, or time served with significant engineering management experience
  • Proven experience in a senior Engineering Manager role within a manufacturing environment
  • Strong knowledge of PPM systems, asset management and maintenance best practice
  • Proven CAPEX project management experience from scoping through to delivery
  • Experience managing engineering teams, contractor relationships and engineering budgets at site level
  • Commercially aware with the ability to justify and prioritise engineering spend effectively
  • Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to develop and hold a team accountable
  • A hands on leader with the technical credibility and communication skills to operate effectively at all levels
