We are hiring for our client for a Senior Power System Evolution Engineer to join a specialist power systems team based in Belfast. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced power systems engineer to play an important role in supporting Northern Ireland's transition towards a secure, reliable and low-carbon electricity system.
Working within a highly technical team, the Senior Engineer - Power System Evolution will undertake detailed power system studies, develop network models and help identify solutions required to support increasing levels of renewable generation across the transmission system.

The Role
- Carry out power system analysis including load flow, voltage, short circuit and transient stability studies
- Investigate challenges associated with operating a high-renewables power system
- Undertake studies relating to future interconnection, long-duration energy storage and offshore projects
- Build and maintain dynamic power system models
- Use modelling software including PSS/E, PowerFactory, DSA, LSAT/TSAT or similar
- Identify opportunities to improve and automate modelling processes
- Produce technical reports and present findings to internal and external stakeholders
- Build relationships with network operators, regulators, government departments and developers
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a collaborative, solution-focused team
The Person
- Degree in Engineering or another relevant discipline
- Minimum 3 years' experience within power systems or the electricity industry
- Strong understanding of transmission networks, system planning and transmission equipment
- Experience in power system modelling and analysis
- Working knowledge of software such as PSS/E, PowerFactory, DSA, Matlab or similar
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Previous experience supporting or mentoring colleagues
- Python coding experience and knowledge of the Northern Ireland power system would be advantageous.
