An established engineering business based in Glasgow is looking to appoint an experienced Engineering Manager as part of its ongoing growth. The company manufactures components for customers operating in the Aviation & Electronic sectors. The organisation operates a fully accredited Integrated Management System to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards and places strong emphasis on quality, compliance and continuous improvement.

This role is suited to a senior engineer with strong leadership capability and extensive hands-on experience who can take ownership quickly and operate with minimal ramp-up time.

The Role

The Engineering Manager will oversee engineering activity across New Product Introduction, machining strategy, process improvement, quality oversight and technical governance. You will be expected to understand and manage the full manufacturing process — from making the first part, refining the process, approving programs, through to production handover. This is not a numbers-driven OEM role; it requires deep technical understanding of how parts are made in a subcontract environment. The successful candidate will be able to hit the ground running, manage pressure, and work closely with both the shop floor and senior leadership.

  • Manage NPI from enquiry to production release
  • Define machining strategy, sequencing and methods
  • Support first-off manufacture, prove-out and process sign-off
  • Oversee programming approval and technical checks

CNC & Manufacturing Process

  • Understanding of offline programming and modelling
  • Ability to review, challenge and improve machining strategies
  • Ensure repeatable, efficient and robust manufacturing processes

Subcontract Manufacturing

  • Balance speed, quality and cost across multiple part types
  • Ensure smooth transition from first-off to repeat work

Leadership & People Management

  • Lead, mentor and manage engineering and technical teams
  • Apply a modern, respectful people-management approach
  • Maintain high standards while motivating and developing staff

Quality & Compliance

  • Work closely with QHSE and compliance teams
  • Ensure quality control processes meet customer and regulatory standards
  • Support audits and technical documentation

Commercial & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Support quotations, bids and cost estimates
  • Communicate with customers and suppliers as a senior technical authority
  • Manage priorities and pressure in a deadline-driven environment

Essential Experience & Attributes

  • Minimum 20 years’ experience in precision engineering
  • Proven experience in an Engineering Manager or senior technical management role
  • Experience working in a subcontract manufacturing environment
  • Offline programming and modelling experience
  • Strong process mindset — understands how parts are made, not just outputs
  • Comfortable with modern technology, including AI-assisted tools
  • Confident, calm under pressure, and technically decisive
  • Modern attitude to people management; values experience and learning
  • Willingness to continue learning and adapting as technology evolves
  • Experience in any of the following sectors would be advantageous: Medical devices or implants, Aerospace / satellite, RF or communications (5G components), Automotive or motorsport (including F1), Electronics or scientific manufacturing

Additional Information

  • Salary is open and flexible for the right individual
  • Overseas candidates considered provided they speak fluent English
  • This role values experience over titles — the more you bring, the more the business is willing to invest

Package and Benefits

  • Company pension
  • Free on-site parking
  • Long-term, stable position within a growing engineering business
  • Opportunity to influence engineering strategy and operational performance
