An established UK engineering services provider are seeking an experienced 33kV Lead Commissioning Engineer to support the delivery of complex power and rail projects. This organisation are recognised for delivering testing and commissioning services across the rail and private network sectors, working on technically challenging schemes with demanding safety and performance requirements.
Role:
The successful contractor will take a lead role in commissioning activities on substation and power projects, working both independently and alongside wider project teams. This position requires a strong technical background in protection, control, and commissioning, with the ability to manage testing activities and produce high-quality documentation for client handover.
Responsibilities:
- CT analysis and verification
- Secondary and primary injection testing
- Functional testing of substation and power system equipment
- Protection testing across multiple relay platforms
- SCADA testing and integration support
- Fault finding and technical issue resolution
- Battery charger testing
- Preparation of commissioning plans, test reports, as-built documentation, and handover dossiers
- Use of relay-specific software (PCM, S1, DIGSI, etc.)
- Operation of Omicron test equipment and associated software
Essential Requirements:
- Proven commissioning experience up to 33/25/11kV
- Strong background in protection and control systems
- Competent with Omicron testing equipment
- Confident using Microsoft Office for reporting and documentation
- Valid CSCS or ECS card
- Full UK Driving Licence
Desirable Requirements:
- Previous experience on Network Rail infrastructure (PTS advantageous)
- Strong working knowledge of IEC 61850 (GOOSE, MMS, Sampled Values)
- Instrument, Protection & Control (I, P & C) expertise
- Transformer testing experience
- HV and LV cable testing
- Experience commissioning DC traction substations
- Current or previous SAP / AP authorisation
