Overview : We are seeking a highly skilled HVDC Senior Valve Manager to oversee and provide technical leadership for our HVDC valve systems across global teams. Based in the UK, you will work closely with the global leadership team while maintaining a strong technical oversight of teams based in the UK, USA, India, and Germany. This position is pivotal in driving the design , optimization , and implementation of HVDC valve systems, ensuring the seamless integration of cutting-edge technologies across onshore and offshore platforms. You will maintain responsibility for the technical strategy , engineering excellence , and cross-team coordination within the global engineering teams involved in HVDC valve design , testing , research and development , and site operations . This is a hands-on, technically focused leadership role that ensures the highest standards of engineering are met throughout the project lifecycle—from initial design concepts to final system deployment. Key Responsibilities : Global Technical Oversight : Provide technical leadership and guidance across the global team of engineers working on HVDC valve systems, ensuring that all technical activities adhere to the highest industry standards and best practices. Design & System Optimization : Lead the technical development and optimization of HVDC valve systems, including mechanical and electrical valve designs , cooling systems , inverter technology , and related components. Ensure the effective integration of system components and smooth execution of design trade-offs. Cross-Functional Collaboration : Work closely with global teams in mechanical and electrical design , manufacturing , research and development , and site operations to ensure proper alignment of project goals and technical requirements. Technical Excellence : Drive the execution of a robust process for design, creation, and optimization of HVDC systems, ensuring that design solutions are innovative, cost-effective, and meet customer needs. Ensure systems are verified and integrated effectively throughout the product lifecycle. Quality & Best Practices : Ensure that all engineering teams are aligned with best practices, quality standards, and safety protocols, both in design and during site activities. Act as the go-to technical resource for resolving complex engineering challenges. Continuous Improvement : Promote a culture of continuous improvement, supporting teams in identifying opportunities to improve design, performance, and cost-efficiency of HVDC systems. Technology Leadership : Stay informed about the latest technological advancements in the HVDC sector , and incorporate these innovations into the team’s technical approaches and design philosophies. Stakeholder Engagement : Provide technical input for strategic decision-making and contribute to the development of technical roadmaps, ensuring alignment with business goals and customer needs. Support the global leadership team with technical insights and recommendations. Site Operations & Deployment : Oversee the technical aspects of onshore and offshore installations , ensuring proper commissioning and integration of HVDC valve systems at site locations. Provide technical support to field teams and ensure successful project execution. Project & Resource Management : Coordinate and support engineering resources across multiple regions, ensuring the timely delivery of technical solutions and optimal utilization of engineering capabilities across teams. Required Qualifications and Experience : Extensive Technical Experience : At least 7-10 years of experience in engineering and systems management within the HVDC sector , with a strong focus on valve systems (mechanical and electrical), cooling systems , and related HVDC technologies (e.g., inverters , FACTS , Statcom ). Global Team Leadership : Proven experience in leading and coordinating technical teams across multiple locations, with an ability to manage cross-cultural teams and integrate technical solutions across global engineering centres. Advanced Engineering Knowledge : In-depth expertise in HVDC design processes , particularly for converter valves and associated systems, as well as a solid understanding of industry standards and regulatory requirements. Project Delivery : Experience in delivering complex HVDC projects from a technical perspective, including design, testing, commissioning, and integration on both onshore and offshore sites. Advanced Degree : A Master’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering , Systems Engineering , or a related technical field, or relevant professional experience that demonstrates technical depth in HVDC systems. Technical Certifications & Licensing : Up-to-date technical certifications and licenses relevant to HVDC system design and site operations, particularly for onshore and offshore service teams.
