About the Role: We are seeking a highly skilled HVDC Grid Systems Expert to join our dynamic team at the forefront of the energy transition. You will play a critical role in the design, analysis, and integration of high-voltage direct current (HVDC) systems into the UK and wider European power grid. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to some of the most significant grid innovation and decarbonisation projects in the UK.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead technical assessments and feasibility studies for HVDC grid projects.
  • Provide expert input into the design, specification, and integration of HVDC systems including VSC and LCC technologies.
  • Interface with transmission system operators (TSOs), regulators, and project developers to align technical requirements.
  • Model and analyse HVDC grid behaviour using advanced power systems simulation tools.
  • Support tender evaluations and contribute to the development of technical standards and guidance.
  • Contribute to cross-functional teams working on interconnectors, offshore wind integration, and future grid planning.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field (Master’s or PhD preferred).
  • Proven experience in HVDC systems design, operation, and integration.
  • Deep understanding of HVDC converter technologies (VSC/LCC), control systems, and protection strategies.
  • Experience with grid simulation tools such as PSCAD, PowerFactory, PSS®E or EMT-type software.
  • Familiarity with UK/EU grid codes and regulatory environments.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present technical concepts clearly to stakeholders.

Desirable:

  • Chartered Engineer status (or working towards).
  • Experience with offshore wind or cross-border interconnection projects.
  • Involvement in innovation or research projects related to flexible grids or hybrid AC/DC systems.
