Job title: HVDC Commissioning Specialist (Control Systems)

Midlands, England

The Scope:

This is a lead role with technical ownership from lab to live site:

  • Lead on-site HVDC system tests and energised testing to agreed specifications
  • Prepare and revise commissioning procedures with System Engineering and the V&V Lead against contract requirements and international standards
  • Validate procedures on Real Time Digital Simulators (RTDS) before site execution
  • Prepare test programmes, duration estimates, commissioning schedules, power schedules and daily/weekly profiles
  • Coordinate HV switching and power control with the customer and Commissioning Manager
  • Assess converter/station interaction with the AC network - documenting and evaluating unexpected behaviour before proceeding
  • Ensure test data, logs and reports are accurate and current - daily/weekly progress reporting
  • Control test/measuring equipment calibration and electrical safety equipment
  • Deliver daily safety moment and test-plan briefing, capture lessons learned and monitor schedule / cost

Key Technical Focus - IEC 61850 & Capability Building:

A core objective for this hire is to help strengthen and promote capability in the business around IEC 61850-based digital HVDC control systems. You will be working on a modern digital control system utilising IEC 61850 process bus architecture - from procedure development and RTDS validation through to site implementation. GE Vernova will provide in-depth training on HVDC and their eLumina control platform where needed, but they want someone who can help drive best practice and raise the bar in digital substation / digital HVDC commissioning.
