The GP Support Unit (GPSU) is looking for a Director of Finance and Deputy Chief Executive to join our Executive Team at an exciting point in our development. GPSU exists to champion, support, and amplify general practice in Somerset. Acting as an extension of the practice team, we help GPs and primary care professionals navigate challenges, embrace innovation, and thrive. Through collaboration, shared expertise, and hands-on support, we deliver high-quality services that reduce burden, unlock system value, and ultimately improve patient outcomes.

This is a broad executive leadership role combining responsibility as our Chief Finance Officer with a significant organisation-wide remit as Deputy Chief Executive. Working closely with the CEO and Board, you will help shape GPSU’s strategy, strengthen our financial sustainability and support the continued growth and development of the organisation.

As CFO, you will lead our financial strategy, governance, risk and commercial development, providing the insight and assurance needed to support confident decision-making and long-term sustainability.

As Deputy Chief Executive, you will be the CEO’s principal deputy, providing leadership across GPSU and taking delegated executive responsibility in their absence. You will contribute well beyond the finance portfolio – helping drive organisational performance and transformation, strengthening partnerships, representing GPSU externally and ensuring continuity of executive leadership.

We are looking for a CCAB-qualified senior finance leader with strong strategic and commercial capability and the credibility to operate at Board and executive level. You will combine financial expertise with sound judgement, collaborative leadership and the ability to influence across a complex stakeholder environment.
