Software Engineer, Distributed Systems

Full-Time On-site
H

We’re working with a successful, technology-led organisation operating in a data-intensive industry. The company invests heavily in engineering and builds its own software to support complex, large-scale workloads. It offers the chance to work with experienced engineers on technically challenging systems where performance, reliability and scale matter.

About the Role

We’re looking for experienced software engineers to join a team developing distributed computing frameworks and data infrastructure. The team works across software engineering, workload orchestration and systems optimisation. You’ll help build the frameworks that distribute demanding workloads across machines and accelerators, and the data systems that support high-volume, real-time processing. This is a hands‑on engineering role focused on building and optimising production infrastructure. It may suit engineers from distributed systems, compute platforms, data infrastructure or machine learning engineering backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build and optimise distributed computing frameworks.
  • Develop systems for scheduling and distributing workloads across machines and accelerators.
  • Build data infrastructure for high-volume, real‑time processing.
  • Improve the performance, reliability and resource efficiency of production systems.
  • Investigate bottlenecks across complex workloads and infrastructure.
  • Work with engineering teams to support demanding compute and data use cases.
  • Contribute to technical design, code reviews and engineering standards.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Strong commercial experience in Python, C++ or Rust.
  • Experience building or operating distributed systems, compute frameworks or high‑throughput data systems in production.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals and system design.
  • Experience optimising complex systems for performance, scalability or reliability.

Required Skills

  • Strong programming skills in Python, C++ or Rust.
  • Experience with distributed systems, compute platforms or large‑scale data infrastructure.
  • Experience developing and operating production systems.
  • Ability to analyse and improve system performance.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with machine learning infrastructure, model deployment or GPU workloads.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes and containerised environments.
  • Experience with parallel computing, workload scheduling or high-performance computing.
  • For C++ or Rust candidates, strong systems programming and distributed‑computing experience.

Pay range and compensation package

  • Compensation of up to £220,000 base salary, plus bonus, depending on experience.
  • Work on complex engineering problems involving distributed systems and large‑scale compute.
  • Collaborate with experienced engineers in a technically demanding environment.
  • Opportunities to broaden your experience across compute platforms, data infrastructure and machine learning workloads.
