Our client is seeking a technically credible and commercially astute Senior Manager – Big Data Engineering & Platforms to lead the engineering, operations, and strategic evolution of a large-scale enterprise data platform estate. As the leader of the Data Engineering & Platforms function, you will own the end-to-end lifecycle of critical data platforms that process, govern, and serve enterprise data at scale.

You will lead multidisciplinary teams responsible for platform engineering, data engineering, operational support, and programme delivery while driving engineering maturity, operational excellence, and cloud optimisation across the estate.

You will typically have experience in:

  • Enterprise-scale Data Lakes, Data Warehouses, Lakehouse architectures, or modern cloud data platforms.
  • Leading data engineering and platform engineering teams supporting mission-critical environments.
  • Cloud-native ecosystems such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Large-scale distributed data processing technologies including Spark, Databricks, Hadoop, Kafka, or equivalent modern platforms.
  • Data integration, ETL/ELT frameworks, streaming architectures, and real-time data processing.
  • Platform observability, monitoring, logging, and operational analytics.
  • Reliability engineering, incident management, and operational governance.
  • FinOps, cloud optimisation, and technology budget ownership.
  • Enterprise delivery frameworks including SAFe, Agile, DevOps, and product-centric operating models.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Platform Strategy & Architecture: Define and execute the long-term strategy for enterprise data platforms, including Data Lake, analytics, and campaign management capabilities.
  • Engineering Leadership: Lead multiple teams responsible for data engineering, platform engineering, operational support, and programme delivery.
  • Platform Reliability & Operations: Own operational performance of enterprise data platforms, ensuring service availability, scalability, resilience, and recoverability.
  • Cloud & FinOps: Drive cloud cost optimisation and FinOps practices across large-scale data workloads.
  • Enterprise Delivery: Lead complex, multi-team technology programmes delivering strategic platform enhancements and transformation initiatives.

12 months FTC with view to permanent/extension.
