Platform (Observability) Engineer – Systematic Trading – London
£250,000 + bonus & benefits | London
The opportunity
A leading systematic trading firm is looking for a hands-on observability engineer to own its metrics, logging, tracing and alerting platform end to end. Models drive every decision here, so the telemetry is a big-data platform in its own right, spanning low-latency trading systems, large research compute and market data across regions. You’ll set the platform’s direction, and the engineers who rely on it will use what you build every day.
Why consider it?
- Real ownership: you shape the platform and its direction rather than sitting in a support seat
- Genuinely data-heavy:very high-throughput, high-cardinality telemetry across multiple regions
- High stakes, high visibility: your work is used daily by engineers running live trading systems
- Engineering-led: you write production code, not just configuration
What you’ll be doing
- Owning the full observability stack, from collection and ingestion through storage, querying, dashboards and alerting
- Building and running telemetry pipelines that handle very high volumes of high-cardinality data across regions
- Creating automated, self-service tooling so teams get value from their data without raising tickets
- Cutting alert noise and improving signal for on-call engineers
- Writing production-grade Python, Go or Rust, including operators, exporters and pipeline components
What we’re looking for
- 4+ years in DevOps, SRE or platform engineering
- Python and Git, plus Go or Rust
- Hands-on experience with a modern observability stack: Prometheus, VictoriaMetrics, Vector, Elastic, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, AlertManager
- Observability at scale for distributed applications on Kubernetes
- Strong Linux, Bash and container background
- Clear communication, and a degree in Engineering, Computer Science or similar
- Ansible or Terraform
- ClickHouse or other high-volume time-series or columnar stores
- Running high-cardinality telemetry with cost and retention controls
