About the Client: Our Client is an established fire protection business with a strong track record delivering projects across commercial, residential, industrial and infrastructure sectors. With an excellent reputation and an established client base, the business is now expanding into Fire Engineering consultancy. This role offers the unique opportunity to build a new discipline with the backing, infrastructure and financial stability of a well-established organisation. You will play a key leadership role, helping define technical standards, service delivery and future business growth.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Build, recruit and lead a team of Fire Engineers.
  • Establish the technical philosophy, methodologies and quality standards for the Fire Engineering function.
  • Act as the senior fire engineering authority within the business.
  • Lead the delivery of fire engineering design and fire strategy projects.
  • Produce Fire Strategy Plans for new developments, refurbishments, conversions and complex buildings.
  • Deliver performance-based fire engineering designs in accordance with BS 7974.
  • Undertake code compliance assessments using Approved Document B, BS 9991 and BS 9999.
  • Support Gateway 2 and Gateway 3 submissions under the Building Safety Act.
  • Provide technical leadership on evacuation strategies, compartmentation, smoke control, structural fire engineering and suppression systems.
  • Review and approve technical reports and engineering outputs.
  • Advise clients, architects, contractors and multidisciplinary design teams on fire engineering solutions.
  • Support Building Control, the Building Safety Regulator and Fire & Rescue Authority submissions.
  • Develop service offerings, delivery processes and commercial fee structures.
  • Mentor and develop engineers, supporting professional registration and career progression.
  • Build strong client relationships and contribute to business development and market growth.
  • Represent the business at client meetings and industry events.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Fire Engineering or a related engineering discipline, or a Level 6 fire-related qualification.
  • Minimum three years' experience within a Fire Engineering consultancy environment.
  • Proven experience producing Fire Strategies and delivering fire engineering analysis.
  • Strong working knowledge of Approved Document B, BS 9991, BS 9999 and BS 7974.
  • Experience leading complex consultancy projects and taking technical sign-off responsibility.
  • Associate membership of the Institution of Fire Engineers (AIFireE) or higher, or actively working towards professional membership.
  • Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
  • Strong leadership, organisational and client relationship skills.
  • A proactive approach with the ambition to build and grow a successful consultancy team.
