📍 Newbury (Hybrid considered)
🕒 Full-Time or Part-Time

This is not a typical HR role.

People are everything in this business.

We’re not looking for someone to simply “manage HR.” We’re looking for someone to shape the future of the company through its people — someone who can attract, develop and retain top talent in a fast-moving, high-performing environment.

If you’re commercially aware, people-focused, and confident influencing at all levels, this is an opportunity to step into a role where your impact will be seen and felt across the entire organisation.

About the Business

This is a highly successful, independent estate agency operating across Berkshire, Wiltshire and Oxfordshire — built on strong values, exceptional service, and great people.

The business prides itself on:

  • Honest, transparent communication

  • Delivering outstanding client experiences

  • Supporting employees to perform at their best

  • Taking responsibility for environmental impact, with a commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2030

Put simply, this is a company that cares about doing things properly — and that starts with its team.

The Role

This is a broad, hands-on HR position where no two days look the same.

You’ll work closely with senior leadership to drive the people strategy while staying close to the day-to-day — from recruitment and onboarding to employee relations, performance, and retention.

You’ll be trusted to challenge, guide, and improve how the business operates.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

Talent & Recruitment

  • Leading recruitment across the business, ensuring high-quality, values-driven hires

  • Managing the full hiring process, including first-stage interviews

  • Partnering with managers to identify current and future hiring needs

  • Strengthening employer brand to attract top talent

Onboarding & Employee Experience

  • Owning and continuously improving the onboarding journey

  • Ensuring new starters are engaged and set up for success

  • Managing probation processes and early-stage performance

Development & Performance

  • Supporting managers with appraisals, objective setting and development planning

  • Driving training and development initiatives

  • Contributing to succession planning and long-term talent strategy

Employee Relations & Retention

  • Advising managers confidently on people matters

  • Managing employee relations cases fairly and consistently

  • Analysing retention data and improving engagement

  • Supporting pay review processes and workforce planning

Governance & Compliance

  • Ensuring HR policies and processes remain compliant and up to date

  • Managing and updating the Staff Handbook

  • Supporting disciplinary and grievance processes with professionalism

  • Liaising with external HR advisors when required

What We’re Looking For

You’re not just experienced — you’re credible, pragmatic, and commercially aware.

  • Proven experience in a generalist HR role (HR Manager or similar)

  • Strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice

  • Confident influencing and advising stakeholders at all levels

  • Highly organised with the ability to manage competing priorities

  • Professional, discreet, and confident handling sensitive matters

  • A genuine passion for people, culture, and continuous improvement

Why Join?

  • Be part of a market-leading, values-driven business

  • A role where your ideas and input genuinely matter

  • High-performing, supportive team environment

  • Opportunity to shape and evolve the people function

  • Flexible working options available
