Company ---
Humia Recruitment is recruiting for Hawk-Woods, a well-established British manufacturer of professional power solutions for the film, broadcast and media industries.
For more than 30 years, Hawk-Woods has designed and manufactured batteries, chargers, adaptors, power supplies and accessories used by camera, sound and lighting professionals worldwide.
The company operates in a fast-moving market where new cameras and professional equipment constantly create new requirements in terms of power, connectivity, attachment systems, ergonomics and usability.
The Role ---
Reporting to the CTO, you will manage a team of four engineers and technicians while remaining directly involved in product design.
This is primarily a product design and industrialisation role, close to an R&D position.
Your responsibility will be to design complete Hawk-Woods products and take them from initial concept through to production.
You will work on batteries, chargers, adaptors and associated power products, considering the product as a whole: electronics, mechanics, housing, mounting systems, ergonomics, usability and manufacturability.
Main Responsibilities
- Design complete electronic and electromechanical products.
- Develop products from concept through prototyping, testing and industrialisation.
- Design housings, mechanical parts, interfaces and attachment systems using 3D CAD.
- Ensure products are robust, practical, manufacturable and consistent with the Hawk-Woods brand identity.
- Integrate electronic and mechanical requirements into the overall product design.
- Work closely with production, suppliers and purchasing to bring products into manufacturing.
- Follow developments in the Broadcast and Cine market and understand new camera and equipment requirements.
- Lead and manage a team of four engineers and technicians.
Candidate Profile ---
We are looking for an engineer with strong experience in designing and industrialising complete electronic or electromechanical products.
Your background may come from consumer electronics, professional electronics or another technical product environment.
You should have:
- Experience taking products from concept to production.
- Strong mechanical/product design skills.
- Good knowledge of 3D CAD tools; Solidworks would be ideal.
- A good understanding of electronics and electronic product architecture.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and Design for Manufacture.
- Experience managing technical projects and ideally engineers or technicians.
- A practical and product-focused mindset.
Experience with batteries, chargers or portable power products would be a strong advantage, but is not essential.
You do not need to be a battery chemistry specialist.
An interest in the Broadcast and Cine market is important, as you will need to understand how professionals use Hawk-Woods products and how new equipment creates new product opportunities.
Contract & Benefits ---
- Permanent position.
- Based on-site at Hawk-Woods in Ashford, Kent.
- Base salary: £42,000–£50,000 gross per year.
- Performance-related bonus: £2,500–£6,000 gross per year.
